Abstract
249,715. Skinner Automotive Device Co., Inc., and Skinner, R. L. June 19, 1925. Addition to 215,027. Pistons.-The means for aerating and abstracting surplus oil and leakage past the piston as set out in the parent Specification are applied to sleeve valve engines. The collecting groove 35 in which the lowest piston-ring is set, is connected to the longitudinal groove 36 in the piston; air is admitted to the collected groove at a point opposite the groove 36 which, through ports 52, 53 in the sleeve valves 21, 14, port 38 and pipe 45 is connected to the oil separator. The aerated oil and gases are drawn by the engine suction into the separator and after the oil has been abstracted the gases enter the induction pipe. For a multi-cylinder engine a common abstraction pipe can be used. The invention is applicable to engines with a single sleeve valve.
