Abstract
1,172,299. Thermal switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 25 Sept., 1967 [3 Jan., 1967], No. 43556/67. Heading H1N. A miniature cut-out for embedding in motor windings comprises a snap-acting bimetal disc 56 welded at 54 to a heater strip 52 in a V- shaped configuration such that when actuated the disc 56 moves closer to heater 52 and the heat stored therein prolongs the period for which the contacts 60, 40 are open. The support 46 is welded to an annulus 18 which is welded at its periphery to a metal can 12 and the fixed contact support 32 is carried in a glass seal 24. The switch may be enclosed in an insulating sleeve (65, Fig. 1, not shown) and the hermetic seal 20 further protected by insulating potting material (66).
