Abstract

798,436. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. CUTLER-HAMMER, Inc. Feb. 24, 1955 [March 1, 1954], No. 5551/55. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] In a thermal switch (see Group XXXVII) the temperature-responsive element comprises a capsule 21 containing a thermometric fill and comprising a lower rigid disc 21a and an upper flexible disc 21b which snaps over when the fill boils due to the passage of current through the capsule. The left hand edge of the capsule is soldered to a terminal 13a and the disc 21b bears against a pin 31a. The discs are provided with offset bosses 21c, 21d which minimize creep and so allow sudden action. The capsule is acted upon by a spring 24 and is provided with flanges between which is soldered an actuating blade of the switch. Specifications 656,721 and 777,810 [Group XXXVII] are referred to.
