Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Useful 5-minute breathing exercises.

Peter Attia on the connection between aspartame and cancer. After reviewing the data he remains underwhelmed. Think the proper question would be if any amount of soda is healthy?

- Do you realize how many Americans were rooting for Sweden?

- The Tablet on the Military's "Thinning the Ranks." Using Covid "vaccines" to weaken the military and America.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Interesting look at the repercussions of Soleimani's death

IBM and Microsoft - how to lose a monopoly. Interesting perspective for folks (like me) alarmed by Google and Facebook. HT Stephen Landry

- Heh Heh - Iran declines to sign Colin Kaepernick after viewing his workout video.

- Interesting - Stanford researchers develop a particle accelerator that fits on a chip. The design was via a form of AI and the first application for the particle accelerator on a chip is to fight cancer.

- When "Einstein 2.0" met "Freud's successor". Going to add this book to my wish list.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- So now is spanking the hippo a thing? Thankfully not according to the Urban Dictionary (yet)

- Interesting - elephants have a secret weapon against cancer.

- An argument that David Hume is the philosopher (and philosophy) we need today.

- I would counter that it is Hume's good friend Adam Smith who is the philosopher we need today. And that Russ Roberts How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life is the place to start.

- 15 skills you can pick up in a month. Already proficient in 5 on the list but in September I might just look into becoming a notary or learning to juggle.

- SEC sends subpoena to Telsa over Elon Musk's Tweets. It's always something in Musk World.

Meanwhile one of Musk's other companies, The Boring Company, announce a planned underground loop to Dodger Stadium. See this is another example why we need the weekly soap opera Musk World.

- An oral history of Patriot's Day 2013. This is indeed our fucking city! Never thought about how Andrew bailey's blown save that day may have saved some people's lives. Great job by Tim Britton.

- A urine test to spot cancer? Yes please!

- 3-D printed house goes up in a day and costs $10,000.

- Remembering Harry the Hat - an appreciation of Harry Anderson

- Hipster Ninja Bats

- Heh Heh

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- On March 26th 73 years ago the US Marines secured the island of Iwo Jima. I still say that high school students should need to learn of the sacrifices of the Marines on Iwo Jima as a requirement for graduation.

- The Road Not Taken perhaps the most misread poem in history

- Or a cautionary tale of lazy cartoonists

- South Korea agrees to open auto market in exchange for exemption from steel tariffs.

- Heh heh

- US net petroleum imports fall below 18% for the first time in 50-years. It would be interesting to learn if oil from Canada or Mexico is also included in that number. Energy independence was once thought a "pipe" dream.

- New cancer vaccine ready for human trial. Faster please!

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Cancer "vaccine" ready for human trials;
Of the 90 mice affected by lymphoma, 87 were cancer-free after the first treatment, and the last three were rid of cancer with a second injection.
- 1816 the year without a Summer

- I can tell you first hand - the lessons of Total Immersion really work! If you swim laps for exercise or relaxation this is a must read!

- Heh heh

- Tolstoy's 10 Rules for Life

- Google's Project Loon utilizes balloons to bring the Internet to remote areas. Meanwhile Elon Musk plans low Earth orbit satellites for broadband. This sort of reminds me of the story of NASA trying to develop a pen that would work in zero gravity while the Russians just went with pencils.

- The Celtics thinking behind the drafting of Brown and Tatum.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The best Twitter reactions to Joe Biden not running for President... If  you polled Star Wars geeks waiting in line for the new movie - how many would be able to tell you exactly what NASA stands for? Greater then 50% or less than 50%?... Heh heh... OK I'll say it! Those Louisville dancers / whores really weren't that great looking! No wonder Kentucky has been beating the Cardinals in recruiting... For Massachusetts residents looking to honor veterans this November... BTW - NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (but you knew that didn't you)... Heh heh... OK I'll say it! I feel bad for the ESPN employees who have been let go but I'm disappointed the layoffs didn't include any on-air "talent"! There are quite a few I was hoping I'd never have to watch again... What will be the larger amount - the amount the NFL ends up fining Cam Heywood for honoring his dad who died of cancer or the amount the NFL will actually donate to cancer charities via their Pink October BS?...

WSOP - Who I am Rooting For

The WSOP (World Series of Poker) started over the weekend. After reading this article by Brad Willis - I know who I am rooting for. Brad had a quick update yesterday saying that Vanessa Pacella made it through Day 1 with 67,300 in chips.

Any women out there - please get a mammogram before age 40.

Lance Armstrong - Cancer Exemplar or Fraud

With today's news about Lance Armstrong it is an excellent time to read this Outside Magazine profile on Armstrong and his Livestrong non-profit.

The key takeaway is that when you donate money to Livestrong you are not giving money for cancer research - you are giving money for hope (many people don't realize that Livestrong actually doesn't give any funds towards research). And Armstrong's image becomes the beneficiary of that message as the exemplar of that hope.

In no way am I sitting in judgement on this. Rationally I feel that the cure from cancer will be found via research. But that rationality is coming from someone who does not have cancer. If I had cancer I'm guessing the hope. message and example of Lance Armstrong would become much more important to me.
