Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Plucking the Peacock. Excellent background and history to NBC's money grab to try and force people to sign up to Peacock this weekend too watch the Miami-Kansas City game. Really hope they lose money!

- SpaceX and T-Mobile send their first text messages via satellite.

- Tucker Carlson Episode 63 - when do the architects of COVID go on trial?

- Press release from the New England Patriots agreeing to mutually part ways with Bill Belichick.

Starlink Speeds Slow in US and Worldwide

SpaceX Starlink download speeds have decreased across the board in the US and worldwide between Q2 2021 and Q2 2022 according to Ookla speedtests.

This makes sense as Starlink is a shared network and the more users the more bandwidth contention you'll run into. It's also good to remember that even Elon Musk calls the service, "better than nothing." Which it is - if you have no access to broadband at your home or just DSL - Starlink is a fantastic solution. But if you have access to fiber or cable services - you'll get better broadband going those routes.

Where I see Starlink being really financially successful is in non-traditional connection settings. Longhaul trucks, RV's, yachts, boats of all kinds, and airlines are some applications just to name a few. Also the T-Mobile partnership is very interesting - potentially you could have cell service in North America everywhere you can see the sky.
