Baker Street - BBC Sherlock

Saw a band cover Baker Street and realized A) what a great song it is and B) there really should be a video of the song with Sherlock Holmes. And here you go!

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Bummed the Bruins lost to the Canadiens last night. Will be avoiding sports talk radio for the next couple of days... Sherlock actually sucks at deduction... The story is that basketball was invented in Springfield, MA but the more accurate history may show it was actually invented in Plainfield, MA which was also the birthplace of James Naismith... Super Mario Game of Thrones... Social Darwinism? Is that like Social Drinking? I only believe in evolution when with friends and then only in moderation... God willing - this is my next new car... Donald Trump should legally add an "O" to the end of his name to make his "brand" more appealing to Europeans. Donald Trumpo!... Like a cheese cracker! Jane Fonda was pretty hot back in the day...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Excellent graphic on Duck Dynasty outrage. As others have pointed out best response to someone really outraged by Duck Dynasty is "Wow - you must really hate Muslims then" and see how they backtrack.

- Netflix getting rid of bunch of titles on January 1st. Check link to see if there is a movie you want to watch before then

- Uncropped version of iconic photo of tank man protester in Tiananmen Square. Wow!

- Tycoon gives away $800 million fortune before jumping to death

- Speaking of Wow! Temporary rules posted at Britain's Richmond Golf Club after German bombs hit course in 1940

- Excellent - Sherlock Holmes now part of public domain

- The Curse of Flutie - hard to argue against it. Though Occam's Razor may just say that this was just evidence that Wade Phillips is awful coach.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

With everyone focused on the IRS scandal which keeps getting worse and worse - this would be a good time for Hillary Clinton to come clean on Benghazi. She can say that she was trying to protect the President and regrets her actions. She could say that she was confused about the expectations from this administration versus those of her husband. People would accept that...  The NCAA is looking worse and worse regarding U Miami and using Nevin Shapiro as their star witness... This may be a little thing but I'm really not a fan of parents telling kids "Don't you dare" as a warning. Don't you want your kids to dare? especially to dream?...  I think Adrian Beltre not wanting to be touched on his head and his teammates doing it anyway is funny. That's something a little brother would do to a big brother... With Elementary done for the season and the new season of Sherlock not showing in the US until September - I'm having some Sherlock Holmes withdrawal... Wow - this pinpointed map of unemployment is incredible. Look at how employment seems to end at the borders of California.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Jason Varitek hit a home run last night and now has 192 on his career. That lets him pass (for the time being) teammate Adrian Gonzalez. I wonder if Varitek has let Gonzalez know about this... Awesome collection of pre-1925 sports photos. The auto polo one may be my favorite... In the years to come Francisco Cervelli will have the same impact on the Red Sox / Yankees rivalry that Bob Montgomery had... More awesomesauce - Benedict Cumberbatch (the new Sherlock Holmes on BBC) does an impression of Alan Rickman singing Candle in the Wind... Metallic Snow would be a good name for an all-girl Metallica cover band... Not sure if Roald Dahl was funny or just plain strange... Not a fan of the phrase "unnecessary death and destruction". The phrase infers there is such a thing as "necessary death and destruction"... Speaking of awesome awesomesauce - this NFL special on Bill Belichick looks to be beyond awesome... I'm surprised you never see the show Northern Exposure on re-runs. No TV Land, no A&E, no nothing. It's disappointing... Any truth to the rumor that Derek Jeter dumped Minka Kelley because she shouted "Nomar" at an inopportune moment?...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I did not know that Jared Harris (Lane Pryce on Mad Men) was the son of Richard Harris who I guess never clubbed his son over the head with a cane. Jared Harris has been tabbed to play Moriarty in the next Sherlock Holmes movie... The word “alamo” is Spanish for the cottonwood tree. "Remember the cottonwood" just doesn't have the same ring as a rallying cry though... Hard to believe Manny Ramirez will be Type A free agent while David Ortiz and his 32 HR / 101+ RBI will be Type B. Not that it will make a difference since I'm sure the Red Sox will pick up Ortiz' option for 2011... True Grit trailer - I can't wait... JD Drew has a limited no-trade clause to 2 teams. I'm assuming the Phillies are one but I wonder who the 2nd team would be? The Cardinals maybe?... Very interesting - Hells Angels photos from unpublished LIFE story in 1965. Be sure to read the captions. Interesting stuff... I did not know this - the federal government owns approximately 85% of the land in Nevada, 69% of Alaska, 57% of Utah and 53% of Oregon... If I believed in conspiracy theories I would suggest that San Francisco is tanking their season on purpose to get Stanford QB Andrew Luck in the draft so that 49er fans can forget that their team took Alex Smith instead of Aaron Rodgers in the 2005 NFL draft.
