Flotsam and Jetsam

 Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Pelosi's Haircut would be a great name for a band... "A rising tide lifts all boats but you will see who is swimming naked when the tide goes out." - Warren Buffett... Holy crap! Robot wins Rock, Paper, Scissors 100% of the time because of ultra-fast vision and reflexes. Scary implications. Robot cops with the fastest draw and unreal firing accuracy can't be that far into the future... "Don't be the Jabroni!!!" - The Iron Sheik... Now would be a good time for someone in Congress to introduce a bill changing the national anthem to Free Bird. You can't be kneeling when your whole body wants to rock out. That bill would get lots of support from both sides of the aisle... Baseball Hall of Famer Tom Seaver has passed away at age 75. He was the best pitcher ever for the Mets (and maybe the Reds) but did you know he was also the best pitcher for USC? Seaver would have been the all-time ace for the Trojans and could have led a historical starting five followed by Randy Johnson, Bill Lee, Mark Prior and Barry Zito...

The New National Anthem - Free Bird

If I were in Congress every April 1st I would propose a law changing the National Anthem to Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird. I think that would be great. I bet you would get a lot of Congressional support for the law from the South too.

How great would it be if the law went into effect prior to the next Olympic Games? Imagine other countries having to sit through 9 minutes of Southern Rock each time a US Olympian medaled - or would that be metaled? Imagine proud US citizens playing air guitar while the world watched - each citizen putting their own stamp on the guitar anthem. It would be awesome.

Already the words "Free Bird" are a joke/insult to most musicians or bands - how ironic would it be if they all had to actually learn to play the song? Play Free Bird would take on a whole new meaning and level of hostility from bands who would never know if you were messing with them or being patriotic.

Too bad I'm not in Congress.

New English National Anthem

England is thinking about adopting a new national anthem to replace God Save the Queen to be played before sporting events and also I would assume during medal presentations. I really like the idea of England adopting David Bowie's Heroes as their new anthem. The lyrics actually work pretty well for sporting events.

Let me also repeat my belief that American should adopt Free Bird as our new national anthem.
