Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

It would be interesting to learn how many people during the pandemic became autotonsorialists. That's one who cuts their own hair... "There are two kinds of people in his up-tight world: his victims and his women. And sometimes you can't tell them apart." That's the tagline from the 1967 Lee Marvin movie Point Blank. Can you imagine that tagline being used for a movie today? Well perhaps for a bio-pic of Bill Cosby... Newt Gingrich's Open Marriage would be a good name for a swinger's assisted living facility... Tim Feriss' letter to a friend who wants to get in shape... If Buffalo were to reach the Super Bowl - I wonder which team their fans would prefer to face. Either Green Bay or Tampa Bay would be a difficult opponent but psychically beating Tom Brady would be like an exorcism of the past 20-years (Brady is 32-3 career vs Buffalo) but to once again lose to Tom Brady would be perhaps literally maddening for the entire City of Buffalo. Without saying it I'd guess many Bills fans are silently rooting for Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

People who say Sony Michel isn't an adequate replacement for Dion Lewis on the Patriots are right. But Lewis wasn't supposed to be the replacement for Lewis. Rex Burkhead and James White were supposed to replace Lewis' snaps and production... Meth is a hell of a drug... If you told me a decade ago that Bill Cosby would be going to jail - I would have bet anything it would have been for being the New Coke spokesman... Wait President Trump signed a new free trade agreement with South Korea? Shouldn't this be bigger news?... People seem to forget that it took Dion Lewis 5 seasons to get where he is in the NFL. In Lewis' first 2 seasons he had just 192 yards combined in rushing and receiving yards. Sony Michel, if he stays healthy, will be more productive than that... Douglas Adams on our reactions to technology over time... Someone should let it slip that Mother Theresa was a Republican just to see what the Left would do to her reputation...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Beware the ides of June!!!... If I were an MLB player my walk-up music would be God Bless America - just to see who stands... I absolutely love this gesture to honor the passing of Adam West... "Too often, we judge other groups by their worst examples while judging ourselves by our best intentions." - George W. Bush. Something to keep in mind while cruising the Internets these days... See what I mean... I forget - what came first? Bill Cosby as rapist or Bill Cosby as pitchman for New Coke?...  I heard a Beastie Boys song on a classic rock station the other day. Man am I fucking old... Time for another MOAB drop I guess... Whenever you see people complain that Colin Kaepernick is being blackballed by the NFL just remember that on March 1st he opted out of a contract with the 49ers that would have paid him millions. He OPTED OUT of his contract...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Why does a QB say "hike" in football? What is he "hiking"? Seriously this little language nugget bugs me... I'm depressed that Florence Henderson has taken the secret of where Mrs. Brady buried the body of her first husband to her grave... What kind of monster was Fidel Castro? One interested in starting a thermonuclear war...  In my opinion - if you can't name the last two people to hold a Cabinet position you really aren't in a great position to complain about Trump's choices... WTF?!? Seriously - WTF?!?... Another language question - why is it that we say "slept like a lamb"? Why a lamb? Why not a sloth or a welfare recipient?... I only know Ron Glass from his work as an actor but he seemed like the nicest and coolest guy around. RIP Ron Glass... Bill Cosby says he plans to go back on tour. Most likely to countries without extradition treaties with the US...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If Milan Lucic was still with the Bruins - his 23 points would put him 6th on the team in scoring... Heh heh... Beats at the Heart of Chaos would be a good name for a band or for a retro Beatnik coffee bar... At some point I'm going to type "Norwegian Beaver Cheese" into the search box on PornHub and RedTube just to see what videos come up... In the future the word "distaff" will be replaced by the word "nodick" because people in the future will be stupid... Two months later and the NFL still doesn't have anything to report on the Andrew Luck injury "report"... I'm going to have business cards printed up that say "Chris Lynch - Public Intellectual" because why not?... If I were President - I would pardon Bill Cosby if he he agreed to kill that super annoying Dr Pepper vendor guy from all the bowl game commercials... How you all probably feel about me for typing that last bit about Bill Cosby... I might be in the minority on this but I feel that women who get their periods during the December holiday season should be made to wear Krampus masks...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

What came first? Bill Cosby becoming a rapist or Bill Cosby becoming pitch man for New Coke? Just curious as to which caused him to first lose his soul... Has any NFL coach with a sub .500 record ever gotten more attention than Rex Ryan and his 48-51 record?... Interesting - here are 5 things Jeremy Affeldt won't miss about baseball after he retires on Sunday... After posting about Maureen O'Hara the other day - I got to wondering what other stars of Hollywood's Golden Age are still not quite bereft of life? Mildly surprised that Kirk Douglas still hasn't joined joined the choir invisible... Surprising gun statistics. Imagine what they would look like if you were able to remove the deaths from Chicago...  Would you consider Sean Connery a member of Hollywood's Golden Age? He's still alive and kicking... Speaking of still alive and kicking - George H.W. Bush is still going strong. I wonder if the 91-year old Bush continues to cling to life out of a stubborn resolve to outlive the 85-year old H. Ross Perot...

Bill Cosby as Frank Booth

I found this funny. But I think Bill Cosby would be much better in a different movie remake. Let me explain.

This train of thought began when I learned today that Quaaludes were named for the "Quiet Interludes" they were supposed to create. My mind then leapt to "Quite Interludes with Bill Cosby". Which led to the idea that would make a great title for a remake of David Lynch's 1986 classic Blue Velvet with Bill Cosby taking over the Dennis Hopper Frank Booth role. You could even keep much of the dialogue exactly the same:
Frank Booth: "In dreams, I walk with you. In dreams, I talk to you. In dreams, you're mine, all the time. Forever. In dreams..."
Frank Booth: "The candy-colored clown they call the Sandman."
Of course I'd want to change this classic dialogue slightly:
Frank Booth: "What kind of desserts do you like?"
Jeffrey Beaumont: "Apple pie."
Frank Booth" [Shouting] "Apple pie? Fuck that shit! Jello Pudding Pops!"

Linky Links

Some things I found interesting or amusing.

- Good on this man. He's a hero.

- This is a few years old but still holds up - National Geographic's top 100 adventure books of all-time.

- Good point - is Bill Belichick the NFL Executive of the Year?

- Heh heh - Temple University receives anonymous donation to build center for disproving rape allegations.

- 12 of the most distracting extras in movie history. They missed number one for me - John Cusak in Broadcast News. He's the angry young man who storms out of the newsroom when the layoffs are announced. You only see his back.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I thought the Patriots played "OK" on Sunday against the Packers. I think the cold affected Tom Brady's grip on the ball more than it did for Aaron Rodgers and was a bit surprised at that. What was disappointing was Stephen Gostkowski missing the field goal attempt at the end. Those 3 point would have meant a Patriots cover and I wouldn't have lost my bet on New England... Bill Cosby resigns from the Temple University Board of Trustees... Just a thought but I wouldn't put it past Billy Beane if he signed Billy Butler so quickly because he plans to trade him at the July trading deadline next season... He does look like an angry lobster boat captain... I wonder if Bill Cosby is on the UMass Board of Trustees?... Who knew? Great Britain was once great at hockey. They won the Gold Medal at the 1936 Winter Olympics... In his 2012 special Fully Functional Jim Jefferies tells a story about the Montreal Just for Laughs festival in which he describes opening for a comedian Hollywood movie star who was very "rapey". Given the stories that have come out about Bill Cosby - I wonder if anyone has gone back to Jefferies to ask him who the "rapey" comedian was?

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Martin Luther King Jr. quote worth remembering these days, "Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars"... Well it is tough to argue with this logic... As pointed out elsewhere, if you say "My Cocaine" you are also saying "Michael Caine" in his own voice... Good question... I wonder if Bill Cosby has looked into booking tour dates in countries with no extradition yet... Never change Bill Clinton, never change... After reading that "My Cocaine" / "Michael Caine" thing above - you said "My Cocaine" out loud didn't you?... Can't argue with this logic either...
