Top 5 - My Favorite Canadians

1. Alex Trebek

2. Cam Neely

3. Ray Bourque

4. Phil Hartman

5. William Shatner

Missing the list the band Rush. Great guys - as a group they're on the list but as individuals they don't make the cut.

EDIT: How could I forget Bobby Orr? In my defense Orr is in a class by himself. Easily would be number one on this list but also Top 5 in almost any list of best humans anywhere.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Interesting long read look at The Athletic and how they are now trying to take over sports reporting in the UK (or more correctly the Premiere League because many soccer fans are international based not necessarily confined to the city of the clubs). As an aside I've been a subscriber to The Athletic for quite a while now and enjoy their content.

- "Keep working." Excellent advice.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

People forget but the Patriots beating the Rams for their first Super Bowl win in 2001 was considered by many at the time to be as big an upset as Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson. It was only later when people realized Tom Brady wasn't a fluke and how great a coach Bill Belichick is that it became just another victory... One of the big sports stories of the weekend was the revelation that star pitcher Madison Bumgarner has been secretly competing in pro rodeo roping contests under the alias Mason Saunders. Kind of feel bad that his cover has been blown... Victor Davis Hanson had a good point on a recent podcast. He noted that China targeted their retaliatory tariffs on products produced in States that could effect the electoral college in the next Presidential election. For instance soy beans were targeted but almonds (produced mainly in California) were not. This is clearly trying to influence the 2020 election much more than anything the Russians are trying to pull off with Facebook ads... The other big sports story over the weekend was the incredible story of 42-year old zamboni driver David Ayres winning a game vs Toronto as the Carolina Hurricanes emergency goalie. Incredible!... "Habit is the intersection of knowledge (what to do), skill (how to do), and desire (want to do)." - Stephen Covey... If you find yourself being annoyed by a Canadian just remind them that Alex Trebek became a US citizen back in 1998...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

When I saw trending on Twitter was Emma Watson's "self-partnered" comment and the NBA's "load management" issue - I assumed they were related. Am I a bad person because my mind works like that?... This is such a tremendous way to get your message out... Boston pro sports are a combined 25-4-2 between the Patriots, Celtics and Bruins so there really should be nothing to complain about. Every other sports city in the USA would be celebrating their good fortune. Yet in Boston you'd never know how good things are if you only got your information from sports talk radio... Excellent quote "Your mind automatically generates thoughts related to the information you consume. Be Conscious of your information diet"... Do you remember when certain comedians and pundits tried to force the nickname of "Donald Drumf" on the President? It will be interesting if any of those now try to pass themselves off as non-partisan... Nice - Teen Jeopardy Champ donates $10,000 to cancer research in Alex Trebek's name...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Somebody pretty please ask Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez if she'd eat the moon if it were made of ribs. Or better yet ask her if the Sun is her favorite planet. Please, please, please... My current life goal is to live longer than Charles Bukowski did. That means if I make it to 75 I win!... Alex Trebek is the best!... Now that Beto is in the race - when does the Rent if Too Damn High guy announce he's running for President too?... "The tools for learning are abundant. It's the desire to learn that's scarce." - Naval Ravikant... "Stinktum" should be a word. It's so much nicer sounding than either "anus" or "sphincter"... How funny would it be if Odell Beckham Jr. didn't pass the Browns physical and had to return to the Giants? I have my fingers crossed because I enjoy a certain amount of chaos...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Chad Ochocinco will wear number 85 for the New England Patriots while Aaron Hernandez will switch from 85 to 81. I wonder what that cost Ochocinco to get his uniform number? I think Ochocinco can have Wes Welker type production for that Pats. He doesn't need long bombs to be successful. He is very quick and good at running routes. He easily could match his uniform number in receptions with Tom Brady as his QB. So let it be written - so let it be done... Heh heh - Algorithm... The things you learn on the Internet (via Mental Floss): "In 1965, Alan Stillman opened T.G.I. Friday’s in New York as a way to meet stewardesses. He said it was the first singles bar." I just find that funny. A single's bar that now has a kids menu? If it had a kids menu back it 1965 it would be just creepy. Like a single's bar designed with NAMBLA in mind... 10 Reasons to Love Alex Trebek... It has been 36 years to the day that Jimmy Hoffa disappeared... Today is also Bud Selig's 77th birthday... This is literally scary good. Michael Chiklis' audition tape for The Shield (NSFW language)... Director Christopher Nolan turns 41 today. I will go to see any movie he directs.... The Red Sox Magic Number is now 57
