|I was born and raised in Maine, have been married for 23 years, and have three young adult sons. I earned a BS in Biology from Gordon College, where I was a Kenneth Pike Honors Scholar. I received a full scholarship to the University of California at Davis, where I earned an MS in Genetics. I lived in California until 2006, when I happily moved to New Gloucester. I now run a real estate business with my husband. I have volunteered in my church and community in homeless ministries, women's ministries, 4-H, and have coached basketball and cross country running. I have served New Gloucester as Vice Chairman of both the Planning Board and Capital Improvement Committees, as well as Chairman of the Budget Committee. I have been elected to two terms on the MSAD 15 School Board, where I served on the Budget Committee and Curriculum Committee. I was appointed to the Maine State Board of Education and unanimously approved by the Senate. I am currently serving my first term in the legislature, where I serve on the Committee on Taxation, the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, and the Bipartisan Government Oversight Committee.
- I believe in individual rights and responsibilities, balanced by compassion.
- The government's power and responsibility should be limited to those functions that only government can perform efficiently. We should be public servants first and foremost.
- When we limit government to its proper role, this will lead to limited taxation and regulation, allowing the economy and individuals to thrive.
A proper response to COVID-19 and balancing the state budget without raising taxes and without cutting services for those who must depend on the government to survive.
We are there to serve, not to be served.
I remember Samantha Smith and her tragic death. I was 12 when she died, almost the same age as she was. It struck me that such a simple thing as offering peace and goodwill to someone perceived as an enemy could change the world, and what a difference even a short life can make. A statue of Samantha is outside the Maine State Museum across from the State House, and it helps me remember to try to bring peace and goodwill to my colleagues even when we disagree.
My first job was working on a dairy farm. I was in charge of the calves and mowing hay, as well as various other jobs. This job taught me the value of hard physical labor, and that we must be grateful to those whose hard work puts food on our tables.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
