What is taking up all my Mac storage, and how do I track it down?
I have a MacBook Pro (c. 2020) with a 500-GB SSD that is running out of hard drive space. In the "Storage" pane of System Settings, the bar chart at the top shows 432 GB used, including 226.5 GB of "System Data". But when I go to the "Macintosh HD" window in the Finder, tell it to show hidden folders, and tell it to calculate the sizes of all the folders (visible and hidden), it adds up to a little shy of 200 GB. Why is there such a discrepancy? [more inside]

Replacement for Apple AirPort Time Capsule for backup
My old AirPort Time Capsule recently gave up the ghost, and Apple long ago stopped producing new ones, so I'm looking for an alternative to back up my data. I liked it because it was dead-simple. I don't need fancy bells and whistles, and ideally I'd like to buy something that's just plug and play, rather than some fancy network-attached storage device that requires me to separately purchase hard drives. Lightweight, closed wall storage
I have a patch of wall in my condo where I'd like to have some closed storage, about the size of a medicine cabinet. However, this spot also contains a pocket door, so I can't put anything in the wall that sticks too far into the drywall - small, short plastic drywall anchors are fine, but anything longer/sturdier will block the door from sliding into the cavity in the wall. Of course there is no stud in the vicinity either. What kind of lightweight storage can I put in that can hold some small items, and has a closed front? [more inside]

Help me find a container
I love storing certain tiny things in Altoids tins, but I have one item that's too big.
I'm looking for a cheap plastic or metal container that is 3.5cm to 4cm tall, wider than 4cm, and at least 8cm long. If it's some sort of candy container (or something really cheap) that would be great! An Altoids tin that's twice as tall would work well, if it existed. Any ideas?

Tools for consolidating folders on Windows 10?
After a few years of cloud syncing problems and short-sighted workarounds, I've got several mirrored versions of my documents folders + nested subfolders across multiple hard drives and thumb drives, where most of the files are identical but each folder may contain a few unique items or updated copies of the same file found elsewhere. Extra Space Storage
I need to rent some storage space for about 8 months. A few years ago I had a space with Extra Space Storage. After 3 months they raised the rent. I suspect this is a regular practice of theirs. How do I save space by zipping my files?
I have a ton of video files (mp4s) on my Windows 11 laptop. I did an experiment by taking one of many folders (this one had 18.1gigs) and ran it through 7zip. About 13 minutes later, I got a zip file that was 18gigs. Surely there's a better way of doing this and saving more than just that .1gig. Any tips?

I would like to keep small dog training treats available to me quickly and easily at all times near the places I like to sit. But I have a determined and hungry cat who will absolutely try to break into any containers full of treats wherever I'm not watching. My garage walls have plywood sheathing between the studs and the drywall. I'm planning to install some slatwall panels.
