This is a very hard post to write, and for days I debated on whether I should even post it or not. But I feel as though this matter is something everyone should be aware of, so that things happening in this beautiful country of mine don’t get covered by politicians trying to rewrite events in the future with elections coming.

There is a big city in Buenos Aires that is currently under water. The number of dead people found keeps increasing. There are children that have been swallowed by the strong currents and their parents are desperately trying to find them, not losing hope in a truly hopeless situation.

Bahía Blanca is under water. People are losing their homes, their businesses, their livelihoods. People are losing everything, including their lives.

It is not the first time this city is affected by weather phenomena and by the sea growing out of control. This is a tragedy that could’ve, SHOULD’VE, been prevented, but no politician is ever interested in doing anything. Even now a big part of relief efforts comes from the public, from civilians donating food, clothes, mattresses, money—and it’s still not enough. Police and army forces are rescuing civilians just as civilians are rescuing themselves and their pets.

There are many wrong things happening in this beautiful country. In Argentina. There are many truly wrong heinous things happening, and sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy because what’s happening here seems to be of little importance to the rest of the world.

Maybe that’s why I’m writing this, why I’m posting this. I want people to know what’s going on, so it doesn’t feel like the world doesn’t care.

An entire hospital wing dedicated to the care of preterm babies was flooded and the doctors and nurses had to take the babies out while hauling the medical devices keeping the babies alive. Just to give you all an idea of how catastrophic this can be, any drastic change in temperature can cause extreme pulmonary distress situations on the babies. This can be lethal, but there was no other choice otherwise they would have all drowned.

There were warnings. They all knew changes were needed. Politicians looked the other way and now they’re all scrambling to use this situation in their favor, thinking of the next elections. They’re using this situation as their political platform while people are losing everything.

Thanks @wajjs for making an excellent point of mentioning the possibility of making international donations for the rescue of animals who suffered the floods.

The flood levels were high (3 m ~ 9ft in some places), so lots of people had to wait out the storm on the rooftops of their houses or they’d be taken by the currents. People waited out the storm WITH their pets there, but unfortunately, many evacuation spots DO NOT accept animals. Therefore, many families had to evacuate their homes and leave their pets on the rooftops, and come and check on them as frequently as they could til they could return safely. Some animal rescue foundations are working to help keep those animals fed, take them to evacuation spots specifically built for them, having them checked by volunteer vets, and contacting lost animals (panicked animals who fled, animals taken by the current, etc) with their families. They’re also helping stray animals who are injured, scared, and starving,

There are currently 16 people dead and it’s estimated that there could be more, considering that there are still areas of the city that are under water and that there are approximately 100 people whose whereabouts are unknown.

Homeless LGBT couple needs help this month!!!

Hey everyone.

My family and I are still homeless and things have been looking very bleak this past month. My health has been poor for a while now and, even after several doctors visits, it’ll be some time before I’m fully recovered. We have not stopped looking for work and a solution for our situation but we haven’t had any luck yet. Instead, we lost an important resource that was helping us cover important bills so I see this month being harder than the last one.

I’m asking around for help covering a motel room, food, important bills, and other necessities while I work out fixing our situation and recover from being sick. The weather has been all over the place and I can’t get sicker right now, so any help with funds or sharing is greatly appreciated. Re-reblogging to add: Out of the 48 trans patients with thyroid diagnoses, 26 were taking estrogen and 21 were taking testosterone. One is unspecified in the article.

43 of this thyroid dx/hrt group had hypothyroidism! That’s 8.7% of the population taking hrt (total sample of 554), while 3-5% is the rate in the non-hrt population.

In other words: this applies to ALL folks taking hrt. This study found that hypothyroidism is somewhat more common with estrogen hrt, but the rate is still elevated with testosterone hrt vs people not taking any at all.

If you’re on hrt and show signs of thyroid issues, talk to your care provider! It’s common in general, and more common in us.

Because a lot of endocrinologists are weird fatphobic transphobic assholes here is what to do to get your levels checked: ask them to run full thyroid work up including TBG and F14, F13 levels. If they refuse, claiming that your TSH levels are normal, remind them that TSH is a pituitary hormone and can take many years before matching actual thyroid hormone levels. Tell them that the prevalence of hypothyroidism in trans people is approximately 8.7%, much higher than the estimates of 3-5% in the general population, and that estrogen can overstress a trans person’s thyroid causing hypothyroidism. If they still refuse, report them to whatever body governs their behaviour and find a new doctor.

i am currently working with an NGO towards recognition of my refugee status, which will give me healthcare access and other important human rights which i have not had in nearly a decade.

unfortunately, to access this NGO, i have to live in a gross inner city food desert. i live in the cheapest hotel available and eat one meal a day. the floor is sticky with unsealed paint, the nearest toilet has been clogged with human shit for two days, and i’m “not allowed” to have alcohol because the owner is an evangelical, so my beer cans are piling up because i have to dispose of them stealthily in the dead of night
