- 1A is a left side view of the controller 1
- FIG. 1B is a front view of the controller 1
- FIG. 1C is a right side view of the controller 1
- FIG. 1D is a rear view of the controller 1
- FIG. 1F is a bottom view of the controller 1.
- the controller 1 includes a housing 2 having left and right grip portions 3L and 3R (hereinafter also collectively referred to as a grip portion 3), and two analogs protruding from an opening provided on the surface of the housing 2. It is mainly composed of a stick and an operation unit including a plurality of operation buttons (described later).
- the housing 2 of the present embodiment has a gentle trapezoidal shape with the left-right direction as the longitudinal direction when viewed from the front, the upper side is slightly recessed, and the lower side is recessed larger than the upper side.
- the grip portions 3L and 3R each have a shape extending to the bottom surface side (the front side when viewed from the player when the controller is held).
- the front side is generally flat except for the position where the analog stick is located, and the position where the analog stick is located is slightly raised. It is configured to draw.
- the housing 2 of this embodiment is formed by plastic molding, for example.
- a first analog stick 11 (hereinafter, left stick) is provided near the upper surface side of the front left end of the housing 2, and a second analog stick 12 (hereinafter, right stick) is provided near the upper surface side of the right end of the front surface of the housing 2. More specifically, the left stick 11 is disposed at a position where it can be operated with the thumb of the left hand gripping the grip portion 3L (more preferably, where the thumb of the left hand gripping the grip portion 3L is naturally positioned), The right stick 12 is disposed at a position where it can be operated with the thumb of the right hand holding the grip portion 3R (more preferably, the thumb of the right hand holding the grip portion 3R is naturally positioned).
- the left stick 11 and the right stick 12 are sticks that can be tilted in any direction of 360 degrees, and are used to indicate any direction. Further, the left stick 11 and the right stick 12 can be pushed in the back direction, respectively, and also serve as push buttons.
- the left stick 11 and the right stick 12 function according to a program executed by an information processing device (for example, a game device) to which the controller is connected. As described above, since the distance between the left stick 11 and the right stick 12 is wider than the conventional one, even if the operation is to incline both, the distance between the thumb and the thumb does not become narrow and the operation is easy. It has become a thing.
- a cross key (direction key) is located at a position on the left side of the front center of the housing 2 and on the inner side of the left stick 11 and operable with the thumb of the left hand holding the grip portion 3L. 21) is provided. More specifically, the cross key 21 is provided at the lower right position of the left stick 11.

- 22D (hereinafter also referred to as a first operation button group) is arranged in a cross shape in the vertical and horizontal positions. More specifically, the operation buttons 22A to 22D are arranged in a cross shape at the upper, lower, left and right positions in the area located at the lower left of the right stick 12. Functions corresponding to programs executed by the information processing apparatus connected to the controller 1 are appropriately assigned to the operation buttons 22A to 22D. For example, the operation buttons 22A to 22D are used for determination operation, cancellation operation, and the like.
- the thumb moves to the position of the cross key 21 by the movement of the thumb with the base of the thumb of the left hand as a fulcrum.
- the belly is movable. In other words, it is possible to move the abdomen of the thumb to the position of the cross key 21 just by moving the thumb to the right with the base of the grip as a fulcrum without changing the posture of gripping the grip portion 3L. It is also possible to return the thumb to the position of the left stick 11 by moving the thumb in the left direction. That is, it becomes easy to move between the left stick 11 and the cross key 21, and operability can be improved. In other words, when the cross key 21 is operated, since the stick is positioned between the tip of the thumb (the position of the cross key) and the base of the thumb, the stick does not interfere with the operability.
- the first operation button group (operation buttons 22A to 22D) at the lower left position of the right stick 12, the first stick and the first stick 12 can be connected to the right stick 12 only by the movement of the thumb with the base of the right thumb as a fulcrum. It is possible to move the thumb between the operation buttons. Thereby, it becomes easy to go back and forth between the right stick 12 and the first operation button group, and the operability can be improved.
- An L button 25L is provided on the front side of the upper left end portion of the housing 2, and a ZL button 26L is provided on the lower side (rear side).
- An R button 25R is provided on the front side of the upper right end portion of the housing 2 (below).
- a ZR button 26R is arranged on the back side.
- the L button 25L is arranged at a position where the index finger of the left hand holding the grip portion 3L can reach, and the ZL button 26L is arranged at a position where the middle finger or ring finger of the left hand can reach.
- the R button 25R is arranged at a position where the index finger of the right hand that grips the grip portion 3R can reach, and the ZR button 26R is arranged at a position where the middle finger or ring finger of the right hand can reach.
- the L button 25L, the R button 25R, the ZL button 26L, and the ZR button 26R are appropriately assigned functions according to the program executed by the information processing apparatus.

- the LEDs 31A to 31D are used for notifying the player of the controller type currently set in the controller 1.
- the controller number is instructed from the information processing apparatus. Specifically, while the controller 1 and the information processing apparatus are communicating, any one of the plurality of LEDs 31A to 31D is turned on in response to an instruction from the information processing apparatus.
- These LEDs 31A to 31D are provided on the inner side and the lower side of the cross key 21 and the operation buttons 22A to 22D, but the interval between the cross key 21 and the operation buttons 22A to 22D becomes wider depending on the button arrangement.
- the lower side has sufficient spacing to provide a plurality of LEDs.
- the finger when operating the stick, the finger may be moved further inward than the stick placement position, but there are not many cases where the finger is moved inward of the button placement position for button operation. The case where a plurality of LEDs are hidden by a finger is reduced. Therefore, the visibility of the LED is good even during operation.
- a charging indicator 32 is arranged on the upper surface side of the second operation button group.
- the charging indicator 32 is used for the purpose of notifying the player of the remaining battery level and charging status of the controller 1. For example, the status can be notified by the color of the LED.
- the charging indicator 32 according to the present embodiment is provided only in a wider area on the housing than the LEDs 31A to 31D and is not hidden by hand during operation. It is easy to notice changes in color, for example, color changes. Therefore, it is easy to recognize when the remaining battery level is low.
- a charging connector 33 is arranged at a position near the front side of the center of the upper surface side of the housing 2.
- the charging connector 33 is a connector corresponding to, for example, a mini USB terminal, and can be charged to the controller 1 by connecting to a power supply source using a predetermined cable.

- a battery is housed inside the lid.
- the central region of the housing 2 (hereinafter referred to as a battery storage region) has a shape that is recessed from the left and right grip portions and portions where the ZL button 26L and the ZR button 26R are present (FIGS. 1A and 1C). 1E, FIG. 1F).
- the central region where the battery is located has a concave shape, and only this portion is thin (in other words, only the storage portions of the grip portions 3L and 3R and the ZL button 26L and the ZR button 26R are raised) Shape).
- the thickness of the housing at the center is increased to some extent due to the influence of the component size and the like. Therefore, the thickness of the central region can be reduced, and the shape is easier to grip.
- two small holes are opened in a part of the upper end of the battery lid 35.
- One of the opening positions (left side in FIG. 1D) is provided with a connect button 36 that is used when establishing wireless connection (pairing) between the controller 1 and the information processing apparatus, and the other position (FIG. 1D).
- a reset switch 37 for resetting the controller 1 is arranged on the right side.
- a vibration unit that generates vibration based on a control signal from the information processing apparatus may be disposed inside the grip unit 3.
- the vibration part is disposed inside the grip part 3L.
- the force is applied to the left hand side (the hand is held more firmly than the right hand). This is because it is considered that the hand on the side where the direction operation is mainly performed is often used as a support, and it is considered that it is easier to transmit vibration if the vibration part is provided on the left hand side.
- the housing 2 includes a communication unit for wireless communication with the information processing apparatus.
- FIG. 3A is a top view of the controller 1
- FIG. 3B is a front view of the controller 1
- FIG. 3C is a bottom view of the controller 1
- FIG. 3D is a right side view of the controller 1.
- the horizontal distance between the leftmost end of the grip portion 3L and the rightmost end of the grip portion 3R when viewed from the front is long enough to be gripped with both hands. Specifically, it is about 140 mm to 180 mm, and is 161 mm as an example.
- the vertical interval between the lowermost end of the grip portion 3L and the uppermost end of the L button 25L is long enough to operate the L button 25L when the grip portion is gripped. Specifically, it is about 100 mm to 115 mm, for example, 106.74 mm.
- the horizontal distance between the left stick 11 and the right stick 12 is an easy distance to operate with the thumb when the grip portion is held with both hands. In addition, this is an interval at which the stick is unlikely to get in the way when operating other buttons. Specifically, it is about 80 mm to 100 mm, for example, 92 mm.
- the horizontal midpoint of the left stick 11 and the right stick 12 is substantially on the lateral center line of the housing 2 (on the line passing through the horizontal center point in FIG. 3B perpendicularly, more specifically in FIG. 3B). On the line overlapping with the line AA ′ in FIG.
- the horizontal interval between the system operation buttons 23A and 23C is such a length that the buttons are not too close to the stick. Specifically, it is about 20 mm to 30 mm, for example, 26 mm. Note that the system operation button 23B is disposed substantially on the horizontal center line of the housing 2.
- the power operation button 28 is disposed almost on the horizontal center line of the housing 2.
- the distance between the center of the cross key 21 and the center of the power operation button 28 is such that it can be easily operated with the thumb when the grip portion is gripped. Specifically, it is about 20 mm to 40 mm, for example, 29 mm.
- the horizontal interval between the center of the power operation button 28 and the first operation button group is a length that can be easily operated with the thumb when the grip portion is gripped. Specifically, it is about 20 mm to 40 mm, for example, 29 mm.
- the positions of the center of the cross key 21, the center of the power operation button 28, and the center of the first operation button group on the vertical axis substantially coincide with each other.
- the horizontal interval between the operation buttons 22D and 22A is about 15 mm to 30 mm, and is 22 mm as an example.
- the vertical spacing between the operation buttons 22C and 22B is about 14 mm to 28 mm, and is 20 mm as an example.
- the vertical distance between the center of the right stick 12 and the center of the operation button 22A is long enough to be operated with the thumb. Specifically, it is about 20 mm to 30 mm, for example, 24.48 mm.
- the vertical distance between the center of the power operation button 28 and the system operation button 23B is about 15 mm to 20 mm, and is 18.48 mm as an example.
- the vertical distance between the lowermost end of the grip portion 3L and the center of the cross key 21 is about 40 mm to 60 mm, and is 52.94 mm as an example.
- the midpoint of the ZL button 26L and the ZR button 26R in the horizontal direction is substantially on the horizontal center line of the housing 2 (on the one-dot chain line in FIG. 3A).
- the midpoint between the L button 25L and the R button 25R is also substantially on the lateral center line of the housing 2.
- the L button 25L, the R button 25R, the ZL button 26L, and the ZR button 26R are arranged so that the horizontal arrangement is close to the positions of the left stick 11 and the right stick 12, respectively.
- the horizontal distance between the center of the ZL button 26L and the center of the ZR button 26R is about 80 mm to 100 mm, for example, 93.1 mm.
- the distance in the depth direction between the upper end of the right stick 12 and the lowermost end of the grip portion 3R is a length that can be easily gripped by hand. Specifically, it is about 44 mm to 65 mm, for example, 56.84 mm, and the distance between the upper end of the right stick 12 and the lowermost end of the protrusion on the storage portion of the ZR button 26R is specifically 44 mm to 65 mm. As an example, it is 58.08 mm.
- the thickness from the front to the back (the thickness of the cross section indicated by the line A-A ′ in FIG. 3B) over the battery storage area is 26.42 mm.
- the thickness of the housing increases due to the size of the stick-related parts, but according to the above configuration, the stick is arranged near both ends on the upper side, In this way, the central portion of the housing can be made thin. By making the central portion thinner, the grip feeling is further improved.
- the height from the front surface of the right stick 12 is about 7 mm to 13 mm, and is 10 mm as an example (the same applies to the left stick 11).
- the two analog sticks are operated with the left and right thumbs when the player holds the grip portions 3L and 3R at the upper right and upper left positions when the housing 2 is viewed from the front. Since it is arranged at a possible position, a sufficient distance between the two sticks in the horizontal direction can be secured, and the operability of each analog stick can be further improved.
- the cross key 21 and the first operation button group are arranged at positions inside the two analog sticks, for example, the cross key (key top is lower than the analog stick) is placed outside, and the analog stick (cross Compared with a controller that has a height higher than the key), the height difference makes it difficult to operate the analog stick when operating the cross key, making it easier to operate. I can do things.
- the second operation button group since it is located inside the two analog sticks, it is easy to operate these buttons without causing interference to the finger due to the height of the analog sticks.
- the left and right thumbs are attached to the cross key 21 and the first operation button group, respectively. Even in this case, it is possible to prevent the thumbs from colliding with each other and to improve the operability of the cross key 21 and the first operation button group.
