UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANNIE C. BLALOOK, OF TI-IOMASVILLE, GEORGIA.
LUNCH TRUNK OR Box.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,178, dated April 9, 1895. Application filed August 30, 1894. Serial No. 521,748. (No model.)
This invention is an improved lunch trunk or box and is intended for carrying various things in different compartments.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple and convenient trunk or box for carrying lunches, &c., so that things will not become mixed, and'if desired for carrying any articles where it is necessary to keep them in separate compartments.
The trunk or box can be made in all sizes and used for all purposes possible to those sizes.
With these objects in view my invention consists broadly in a main box or trunk surrounded by another box or trunk divided into a series of compartments and each provided with its own lid or cover.
My invention consists also in certain details of construction and combination of parts all of which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view showing my device with all the compartments closed. Fig. 2 is a view showing it with some of the compartments open. Fig. 3 is atransverse vertical section on line 3-3 of Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
In constructing a trunk in accordance with my invention I employ a main or central box or trunk A, and surrounding the same is another box or trunk B essentially octagonal in shape as clearly shown. The main trunk projects a short distance above and below the outside trunk and is provided with the usual top or lid a. The combination trunk rests upon the bottom of the main box or trunk and the bottom of the supplemental surrounding box or trunk does not touch at any time. The
outer box or trunk is divided into a series of compartments by means of the vertical partitions C O which extend at right angles to the sides and ends of the main box or trunk adjacent to the corners of the same, thus dividing the outer box or trunk into eight separate compartments D, four of which are triangular in shape as shown at each corner. Each compartment has its own lid or cover E which is hinged to the top edge of the box or trunk B and folds against the projecting portion of the main or central box or trunk. Each lid or cover is turned up or flanged at its inner edge as shown at e, and the covers of the rear compartments are provided with locks or latches F for securing the same, said lock being carried upon the flange 6, while the front and side compartment lids or covers are secured by the main lid or cover which overlaps the fianges when the covers are properly closed.
The corner compartments being triangular in shape have triangular covers and the flanges e consist of thin strips which are bent centrally at right angles to fit against the corners of the main trunk or box. Rest strips G G are attached to the top of the partitions and upon which the lids or covers rest thus preventing said covers slipping down into, the compartments they are intended to close.
Each lid or cover is provided with a suitable handle and the 'main'lid or cover is pro vided with a strap handlebymeans of which the entire device is lifted and carried.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with the main box or trunk, of the surrounding box or trunk divided into a series of compartments, the covers having flanged sides, the rest strips and the main lid or cover adapted to secure the front and side covers, substantially as shown and described. a V
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
