Description

ABRAHAM. T. GdLDFIELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM T. GOLD- FIELD, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and more especially to that class representing a store or warehouse and its object is to provide a boxshaped structure which when in use is open at the front and top and has removable walls which may be put in place so to cover these two sides and inclose the store when it is not in use, as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view of the store with the front let down and the top opened and used as a sign. Fig. Qis a perspective view of the device closed. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view. Fig. l is a top plan view.v
Applicant is aware that toys of this nature have been patented and made, but they have been made as structures without any means of closing the same so that the samples and boxes to be contained within the store are lost and the value of the device is destroyed. In order to overcome this defeet, the present invention provides means for closing the structure so that the samples and wares contained therein are not liable to be misplaced. The store in this instance consists of a boxwith side walls 5, aback G and flooring 7 and to the front edge of the latter is hinged a wall 8 adapted to swing upward and cover the entire front of the box and fit against the strips 9 and under the blocks 10 at the upper ends of the strips.
The rear wall 6 has n its upper edge sockets 11 to receive dowel pins 12 in the lower edge of the top 13 when it is removed and set upon the top of the back wall for use as a sign. 'he ends 14 of the top piece are tenoned to fit grooves 15 in the upper end of the side walls The interior of the box is provided with shelves 16 for the reception of boxes or packages 17 and a counter 18 is adapted to carry a cash register 19 and the scales 20.
adapted Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 27, 1909.
Patented Jan.31, 1911.
Serial No. 530,147.
At other points about the floor of the store may be arranged barrels or boxes 21 and 22 as may be found necessary to represent a complete grocery or other store. When it is desired to close the store the top 13 is removed from the back wall and it is slid in the grooves 15 until it covers the top of the box, the packages on the upper shelf being removed and the indents 23 fitting around the upper ends of the strips 9. The front wall 8 is now swung upward and the hook 24 at its front edge engages an eye on the top and completely closes the box when it is ready for shipment or it can be relied upon to efiectually secure the articles therein.
It. is obvious that the construction and arrangement of the removable sides of the box may be otherwise modified without departing from the essential features above described.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a toy store, the combination with a box having a stationary bottom, back and sides; of a hinged front, a sliding top to be used as a sign, and shelves and a counter permanently located within the box.
2. In a toy store, the combination with a box having permanently connected'sides and bottom, a counter secured to the bottom, shelves secured to the back, a hinged front secured to the bottom, and a movable top adapted to slide in guide ways in the sides and be used as a sign.
3. In a toy store, the combination with a box comprising a floor and back and side walls permanently secured together, of a counter secured to the floor, shelves secured to the back wall, a front wall hinged to the floor and adapt-ed to swing downward to form an extension for the floor, and a top wall adapted to he slid in the grooves in the side walls and secured to the front wall, but which may be adjusted and used as a si n.
4. In a toy store ,the combination with a base board or floor having a counter secured to it, of a back secured to the floor and having shelves and sockets, side walls permanently secured to the floor and back and having grooves at their upper ends, a front Wall In testimony whereof I afiix my signsor door hinged to the base and adapted to' ture in presence of two Witnesses.
form an extension therefor a to) piece With pins to fit in the sockets and be used as a sign ABRAHAM GOLDFIELD' 5 and tenons at the ends of the top piece Witnesses:
and adapted to slide in the grooves of the CHARLES LA RUE,
side Walls. JAMIES F. DUHAMEL.
