1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in hat holders or supports adapted to hold a hat or similar article in a predetermined position.
An important object of the present invention is to provide an article of this character adapted to hold 01' sup-port a hat upon a horizontal surface, such as a bureau, table or the like, and also adapted to hold the hat when the device is attached to a wall or other suitable supporting structure.
More specifically, the invention comprises an attaching base adapted for attaching to either a horizontal or vertical surface and including a hat-supporting member adapted for extending in an upright position regardless of the character of the supporting structure to which the article is attached.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view.
Figure 2 is a perspective view.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, where in for the purpose of illustration I have dis-.
closed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a base having openings 6 for receiving screws or other fastening devices 1 and by means of which the base may be attached to a wall or other suitable vertical supporting structure 8, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, or the base may rest upon a flat surface, such as a table, bureau or the like.
The base is formed with a threaded opening 9 for threadedly receiving one end ll! of a pin l l whereby the pin will project horizontally outwardly from the base when the base is attached to a wall or other supportingstructure and the pin will extend in an upright position when the base 5 is resting on a fiat horizontal surface.
An arm l2 in the form of an extension for 2 the pin H is provided at its inner end with a trough or channel-shaped member [3 in which the outer end of the pin H is seated, the upper edges of the trough member [3 being suitably attached to the pin by means of a bolt and wing nut l i, whereby the arm may be supported in a horizontal longitudinally aligned position with the pin l l, as shown by the full lines in Figure 1 of the drawings, or may be swung upwardly into a vertical position at the outer end "of the pin H,
as shown by the dotted lines.
It will be noted that when the arm i2 is in a horizontal position, the member l3 engages the under side of the pin 1 I and thus maintains said am i2 aligned with said pin. Also, when the arm 12 is swung upwardly into vertical position, said member 53 is designed to abut the outer end of the pin H and prevent said arm from being swung past a position perpendicular to the pin II, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. The outer end of the arm I2 is formed with a rounded head l5 which may be formed as an integral part of the arm or formed separately and attached to the arm in any suitable manner.
Accordingly, the arm I2 may be extended in an upright position when the base 5 is supported either on a horizontal surface or when the base is attached to a vertical surfacesuch' as a wall.
or the like and a hat or other similar article of apparel may then be supported on the upwardly.
extending head I5 of the arm.
The several parts of the device may be constructed of metal, wood, plastic or other suitable material and finished inany desired color.
In view of the foregoing description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it v A hat holder of the class described comprising i 2,416,464 v ,v V i, 3 4
