Description
Jan. 20, 1942. R NOBLE 2,270,331
PIN HOLDER Filed April 14, 1941 .1206'6" MZZQ INVEFQTOR WTNES ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 20, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to pin holders, and its general object is to provide a holder that is primarily designed for use by dressmakers, hairdressers, window trimmers and other persons whose occupation requires that they handle a large quantity of pins or other fastening means such as tacks or the like.
A further object is to provide a device of the character set forth, that not only holds the' pins for convenient and immediate use, so that the person can have free use of both hands, but one or more pins can be instantly removed and applied with respect to the device, without interference from others held thereby, as it includes magnetic means which naturally attracts and draws the pins against the same when directed in close proximity thereto and of course holds the pins against casual removal therefrom, thus it will be seen that my device materially expedites the work of the user and eliminates the unsanitary method of holding the pins in the mouth, now generally employed, especially b dressmakers.
An important objectis to provide a pin holder that includes magnetic means shaped to hold a large quantity of pins of all kinds, as well as metallic implements, in a manner whereby they can be individually grasped and removed with minimum effort.
A further object is to provide a pin holder that is self-supporting, adjustable as to height, simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efficient in use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be herein like characters denote like or corresponding 7 parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of the device, partly in section.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that my device is in the form of a stand and includes an upright that is preferably nonmagnetic and provided by a tubular body or lower section I and a solid upper rod section 2. The latter section is preferably twice the length of the body section and is telescopically mounted therein for free movement relative thereto for adjusting the height of the device and the upper section is held in adjusted positions by a set screw 3 having a serrated head.
Formed on and depending in diverging relation from the enlarged lower end of the body section are legs 4, there being three legs in the form shown, that are arranged in tripod formation and two of the legs are of the same length, while the other is slightly longer, so that the device is supported at an inclination, as best shown in Figure 1, to facilitate the use thereof, and the legs are shown as being provided with casters 5. However, the legs can be of the same lengthand the casters can be eliminated.
The upper end of the upper section 2 is reduced to provide a shouldered recess or seat 6 that has mounted therein and fixed to the recessed portion by suitable securing means, such as screws 1 or the like, an oval ring like permanent magnet 8, for disposal laterally therefrom in a horizontal plane, as clearly shown in Figure 1. The magnet is preferably square cornered and rectangular in cross section, to provide relatively wide vertical straight pin bearing inner and outer faces and flat upper and lower faces, so as to facilitate holding the pins against casual removal therefrom, it being obvious that all the faces are to receive the pins and that the shape of the magnet makes it possible for it to hold a relatively large quantity of pins of all kinds, as well as tacks and the like, and any type of metallic implements, that can be readily applied and removed with respect thereto.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A holder for metallic articles, comprising an upright including a tubular lower section, legs formed on and depending from the lower section, an upper section telescopically mounted in the lower section for adjusting the height of the upright, means for holding the upper section in .u adjusted positions, said upper section having a 4 reduced upper end providing a shouldered recess,
a magnetic ring for holding said articles and 0 having a portion of its periphery mounted and secured in the recess against the shoulder for disposal of the ring in a horizontal position laterally of the upright, and said ring being rectangular in cross section to provide flat upper 5 and lower faces and vertically straight inner and outer faces.
