Description
Patented Jan. 19, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHAEL YOUNICK, OF DELANO, MINNESOTA.
WRECKING BAR.
Application filed November 2, 1922. Serial No. 598,523.
The invention relates to wrecking bars and has for its object to provide, in combination with a bar of this character, transversely disposed arms adjacent the flattened end of the bar and adapted to engage a support and hold the bar against tilting to one side or the other durin the prying operation. The transversely disposed arms also form means for preventing marring or breaking of the support during a prying operation.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure l is a perspective view of the wrecking bar showing the same in position for use.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the bar taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates an elongated wrecking bar,
which bar is bent at 2 to form a surface for engaging a support 3 during a prying operation when the flattened end 4 thereof is forced under a board 5 and the wrecking bar is forced downwardly at its handle end 6 in the direction of the arrow a.
been found that bars of this character, during a prying operation,
port-3 or twist difiiculty the b curved portion arms 7, which often break the supto one side. To obviate this ar is provided adjacent its 2 with outwardly extending r arms are preferably formed integral with the bar and engage the sup port 3 at opposite sides of the bar, thereby preventing twisting of the bar from one side to the other during a prying operation and engaging the support 3 'over a larger area and consequently relieving the strain from a single point on the support, thereby preventing breaking of the support.
From the above it will be seen that a wrecking bar is provided which is simple in construction, positive in its operation and one which is particularly, adapted for pulling of flooring boards and sidings.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A wrecking bar comprising a handle member, one end of said handle member being curved, one end of the curved portion of the handle being flattened and wedge shaped and axially alined outwardly extending lugs in the plane of the curved portion of the handle member and intermediate the ends of the curved member.
In testimony name to this sp portion of the handle whereof I have signed my eclfication.
