WRECKING BAR Filed June 27, 1959 A tiorneys Patented Aug. 6, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE one-half to T. Kelly Gantt, Collier City, Fla.
Application June 27, '1939, Serial No. 281,435
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved wrecking bar, the general object of the invention being to form the hook-shaped part of the bar with a notch or enlargement to provide an offset Wall 5 which forms a shoulderto prevent the bar from slipping when objects are gripped by the bar.
This invention also consists in certain'other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be here- 10 inafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing Where- 16 in like characters denote like or' corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved bar.
Figure 2 is an enlarged View of the hook end showing the shoulder forming enlargement adjacent the forked end of the bar.
Figure 3 is a view showing how the shoulder can be used in twisting a beam.
In this drawing the letter A indicates the bar -25 which is formed with a wedge l at one end thereof and at the other end the bar is bent to provide the hook 2 the end of which is flattened and of wedge shape and provided with a notch 3 so that this end is of fork shape.
30 In carrying out the invention that part of the bar on the inner side of the hook portion and in rear of the notch 3 is enlarged as at 4. This enlargement has two faces, one of which forms a continuation of the inner face of the wedge part, provided with the notch 3 and the other face of the enlargement forms a sloping shoulder 5 at its point of junction with the adjacent part of the bar and this shoulder is formed with the transversely extending teeth 6.
This shoulder can be used for various purposes, 5 such for instance, in turning or twisting abeanr B- as shown in Figure 3 where the hook end of the bar is placed over the beam with the shoulder engaging a part of the beam so that by turning the bar the beam will be twisted. This is desirable in turning twisted joists in flooring. It also acts as a fulcrum and in pulling warped boards to their proper place so that they can be nailed.
, It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the app-ended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A wrecking bar of the class described comprising a bar having one end bent into U-shape, the inner side Wall of the U-shaped part being fiat and the extremity of the short limb of such part being enlarged on said inner wall with the inner end of the enlargement forming a shoulder which faces the bight of the U-shaped part and which shoulder slopes from the inner face of the enlargement to the flat face and toward the bight' and transversely extending ribs on said shoulder.
