The selected forms of a perpetual calen dar embodying my invention are illustrated herein as lappplied to, or embodied in, the cylindrical barrel ofva pencil, pen, or other device'su'ch as may be conveniently carried in the pocket of the user, but it will be understood that such embodiments of the invention and other modifications may be employed in other relations Within the scope of my` invention as defined by theclaims. j
In the embodiments of the invention herein illustrated the cylinders bearing the various tables are coaxially arranged and adapted for rotativerelative adjustment, but it Will be readily understood that the cylinders` may be provided With tables suitably arranged to enable relatively longitudinal adjustment of one or more of thecylinders to display the correct calendar for each month of the year by such adjust ment and manipulation as Will beobvious to .l those skilled in the art. It will, therefore, be understood that the embodiments of the invention particularly disclosed hercin are of an illustrative character and are not restrictive and that-various .modifications in-form, arrangement and construe` tion of parts may be made within the scope of the, invention as define d by the claims.
One of the preferred constructions which is illustrated in Fig. 1 comprises a central cylinder or barrel 1 having mounted upon it tivo table bearing cylinders 2 and 3, preferably ofthe same diameter and adapted to be rotatably adjusted relatively to each otherrand fixed in predetermined adjusted positions,.and a third cylinder 1 preferably telescopic-ally mounted upon the cylinders 2 and 3 and also rotatably adjustable relativelyto said cylinders. j j As illustrated in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive, the cylinder Qbears a daily table having numerals indicating the days of the months arranged consecutively in rows superimposed in columns in lWhich the numerals progressively increase by seven, that is to say, thenumerals in the rows are in consecutive order 1, 2; 3, etc., and the numerals inthe vertical columns increase by seven downwardly, as, 1, 8, 15, etc.

Thus after having once set the calendar it is merely necessary'in order to use the saine that the outer cylinder 1 be rotated until the name of the` month is visible through the aperture 7 whereupon the correct calendar will appear in the sight opening.
Any suitable means may be provided for limiting the relative movement of the cylinders and for clamping the cylinders in place. ln the construction shown in Figs. l'to 7 inclusive the monthly cylinder Q is iiXedly secured to, or if desired may be made-integral with, the barrel 1, or if desired the numerals may be inscribed directly upon the barrel. Inthis device the monthly sequenceis reversed.
The construction illustratedin Figs. 9, l0 andv 11 is similar-tothat` disclosed in Figs. 1 tof7l inclusive eXceptstha-tr thevposition ofthe cylinders 2 and-3 'are reversed, the cylinder 2f bearing the daily table being placed above the cylinderA 3 which bears the names of the months in a predetermined sequence. In this construction, therefore, the monthly'table is fiXedly secured to, orzintegral with', the barrel 1. Ar further modifi-cation in4 this construction consists inA formingthe upper end of the cylinder ewith Lan inturned 'fiange 2O which overlies theupper end of the cylinder; The -upperend 'ofthecylinderQ vis provided with' a recess 21'01" alength equaltothe width of seven colums, anda -lug V22,'eatending downwardly from the inturned flanged end 2O into the'recessil, serves to limit the relative rotation of' the cylinderv i'to the cylinders 2 and 3.'

In this *construction the'b'arrel l1 lhas fixed-f llt? lyv secured upon it, or formed integral there, with, a lower cylinder 23 bearing columns having the names of the months arranged `in the 'same predetermined,sequenceas above described. :This sequence is illustrated in Fig. 13 and upon examination .will be -ifound to be the same in `order as that shown in Figs, 7 and 1l, although in its development the cylinder is cut along a dii- 'ferent line. Immediately above the cylinder 23 a weekly cylinder` 24 is located and is adapted to be set relatively, to the cylinder 23 by interlocking members such as a pin 25 extending upwardly from the upper edgeo the cylinder 23 adapted to enter. any one of seven recesses 26 spacedv apart the width of the columns designating the months.y rllhe cylinderQll is yprovided with a series of columns containing the names of the days of the week, these columns being of the same width as the columns containing the names ofthe months. The third daily cylinder 27, bearing numerals in rows and columnsas above described, is superimposed upon the cylinder 27 and is provided with a pin 28 adapted to interlock anyone ot the seven,

In order to set this calender for any year the plug `is removed and the cylinders separated. The cylinder 2li is .thengrotated abouttlie barrel 1 until the column thereon containing the name of the day of the week is opposite the. column containing January on the table bearing cylinder 23. The cylinders 23 and 24then stand adjusted for anyv year except leap year. t
ln order to adjust the calendar tor any month the cylinder-"27 is rot-ated about the barrel until the numeral one appears in the column containing the day of the week corresponding to that of the first of thekmonth. The cylinder 29 is then moved end-wise toward the' cylinder 24 so that the pin28 will interlock vwith the groove in the cylinder 24 which it is opposite, and the plug inserted. yThis calendar may then be used for the selected month.
When it is ,desired to adjust thecalendar for` another month the upper sleeve 27 is moved longitudinallyot the barrel until the pin 28 is disengaged andis then rotated until the numeral conef stands in the column lcontaining the name of the day of the -weelr which ushersin the selected month. The cylinder is then again forced downwardly into place where it is held by the'pin 28,and the plug 29 replaced. l
lt will be seen from the above disclosure that the invention may be embodied in various different constructions andthat the rela'- :rassurer tive arrangement of the cylinders, the manner in which two or more of them maybe secured together, is relatively unimportant except ttor convenience inV setting, manipulation .and reading, and that the invention contemplates broadly any arrangement ofV superimposed orf associated' tablev bearing cylinders yin which the itemsof the tables are arranged in suchy predetermined sequence that they may be so `adjusted .as to present correct calendars for the months of any year, and in which two of the cylinders may be set in a permanentrelation which will be effective throughout any year-v but leap year, but which may be adjusted for leap' year from and after the end of February` by adjusting the setting one column from or after the endo February.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and ldesire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 'i i l l. A. perpetual calendar comprising three co-axial relatively adjustable cylinders bearing` respectively a weekly table displaying the names of the days of the week` in a predetermined order, a daily table having numerals indicating the days oi" the month arranged consecutively in rows and' columns in one of which the numerals progressively in-. crease seven, and a monthly table displaying the names of the months ot the year in a predeterminedsequence, adjustable interengaging members respectively upon the monthly table bearing cylinder andone of, the other tablevbearing cylinders such that lay-establishing for a series ci" months a fixed setting Abetween the cylinder bearing the monthly table and :said intereugaged table bearing cylinder a correct calendar will be displayed by so adjusting the third table bearing cylinder that the numeral one is placed opposite the name of the dayot the week corresponding :to the name o'l" the first day of the selected month.

A perpetual calendar comprising three co-aXially arranged rotatably adj able cylinders bearing respectively vfcely.v table displaying the names of; the days oit the week in a predetermined order, a daily table having numerals indicating the days of the month arranged consecutively in rows superimposed in columns in which the numerals progressively increase by seven.` and a monthly table displaying the names ot the months of the year in a predetermined sequence adjustable interengaging members respectively upon the monthly table bearing cylinder and one ot the other table bearing cylinders such 'that by establishing a lined settingl between the cylinder bearing the monthly table and said interengaged table bearing cylinder ior January of any year, (except leap year), a correct calendar Yfor any month oit that year will be displayed by so adjusting` the third table bearing cylinder that the column of the daily table bearing the numeral one is placed in alinement with the name ot the selected month, and by rotatably resetting said interengaging members to advance the .monthly table bearing cylinder one column. on March first ot leap year, a correct calendar for that and the following months of the year will be displayed by so adjusting the third table bearing cyl inder that the column ot the daily table bearing the numeral one is placed in alinement with the name of the selected month.

A. perpetual calendar comprising two co-a-Xially arranged rotatable, adjustable cylinders of equal diameter displaying respectively a daily table having numerals indicating the days of the month arranged consecutively in rows superimposed in columns in which the numerals progressively increase by seven, and a monthly table displaying the names of the months arranged in a predetermined sequence, and also bearingthe names of the days of the week in sequence, means for establishing a iixed setting between said cylinders, and a third cylinder displaying a weekly table, enclosing the cylinders bearing the daily and monthly tables, rotatably adjustable relatively thereto, having a sight opening so arranged that when the monthly and daily tables are adjusted to position the numeral one in alignment with the name of the day of the week on the monthly table which corresponds to that of the irst ot January ot any year (except leap year) the rotation of the cylinder bearing the weekly table to a position to bring the name of the day ot the week on which the selected month begins into alignment with the column bearing the numeral one will display a correct calendar for the selected month in said sight opening.

A perpetual pencil calendar comprising a pencil barrel having thereon a cylindrical section presenting a monthly calendar bearing the names of the months arranged in a predetermined sequence, a cylinder rotatably adjustable on said barrel bearing ka monthly calendar having numerals indicating the days of the months arranged consecutively in rows superimposed in columns in which the numerals progressively increase by seven, means for establishing a iXed setting between said cylinders 'for a series of months and a rotatable weekly table bearing cylinder, enclosing said cylinders, and having a sight opening to display a monthly table and a narrow aperture to display the name of a month, said pre-arrangement of the months and the position of said narrow aperture being such that when the name of any month is visible through said aperture the correct calendar for that month will be displayed in said sight opening.

A perpetual calendar comprising a pencil barrel having thereon a cylindrical section presenting a monthly calendar bearing the names of the months arranged in a predetermined sequence and also bearing a table indicating the days of the week, a cylinder rotatably adjustable on said barrel bearing` a monthly calendar having numerals indicating the days of the month arranged consecutively in rows superimposed in columns in which the numerals progressively increase by seven, means for maintaining a predetermined fixed setting between said cylinders, such that the numeral one of the daily table shall be in alinement with the name of the day of the week on the cylinder bearing the monthly table which corresponds to that of the first day of January of a selected year and a rotatable weekly table bearing cylinder, enclosing said cylinders, and having a sight opening to display the monthly table and a narrow aperture to display the name of a month, said pre-arrangement of months and the position of said narrow aperture being such that when the name of the month is visible through said aperture a correct calendar for said month will be displayed in said sight opening.
