PENCIL CALENDAR.

My invention has for its object to provide a novel calendar, having a pair of adjustable or rotative members on which are printed the months, the days of the week, and the dates of the month, whereby the date of any particular day oi a given year may be readily determined, and also whereby the dates of the days of any particular month may be indicated after the calendar has been set for determining the dates of the days of any particular month.
The invention may be contained in structures of different forms, and to illustrate a practical application of the invention I have selected a calendar that may be readily mounted on a pencil holder. The pencil calendar selected for purpose of illustration is shown in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 of the drawings illustrates a side view of the pencil calendar, and Fig. 2 illustrates the arrangement of the months, the days of the weeks, and the dates of the days of the months, developed from the cylinders on, which they are located as shown in Fig. 1.
1, Fig. 1 is the pencil, and 2 is the holder into which the head or point of the pencil may be inserted in the manner well known in the art. The holder may be provided with the slots 3, and the tongues thus formed will frictionally engage the pencil to hold it in the holder.
The holder is provided with a pair of beads 4 and 5, between which are located a pair of cylinders 6 and 7 that may be rotated on the holder and relative to each other. The cylinders have printed thereon certain indicia which are inter-related so that when the figures or letters of one cylinder are placed in a certain position with reference to certain letters or figures of the other cylinder, certain information is conveyed thereby. The letters or figures may be printed or formed directly in the cylinders, or may be printed on sheet material such as paper, and secured to the cylinders.
In the construction shown, to form the pencil calendar the cylinder 6 has the months of the year and the days of the week printed thereon in seven subdivided spaces extending, preferably, all the way around the cylinder. The month or months beginning on each day of the week are located opposite the space in which the day of the week is designated for any particular year. In the construction shown, the calendar is for the year of 1921, and consequently the months beginning on each day of the week are placed in the space in which is also located the day of the week, as for instance, May begins on Sunday, August on Monday, February, March and November begin on Tuesday, June on iVednesday, September and December on Thursday, April and June 011 Friday, and January and October on Saturday. Moreover, the days of the week are placed in consecutive order around the cylinder, and are located at the edge of the cylinder 6 which adjoins an edge of the cylinder 7.
The cylinder 7 has printed thereon the numerals 1 to 31 inclusive, and the numbers are likewise located in seven spaces extending around the cylinder, and into which the cylinder 7 is also subdivided. The numerals will thus follow in sequence of numbering, the days of the week located at the adjoining edge of the cylinder 6. Thirty-one numerals are placed on the cylinder 7 so as to cover the number of days in the longer months such as May, August, etc. On cylinder 6 may also be printed the number of days each month has, for convenience of reference.
In using the calendar one of the numerals is placed opposite or in alignment with one of the days of the week which the numeral correctly designates as the day of that month, and the other numerals will correctly designate the other days of that month. Preferably, and as a rule, the numeral 1 is placed opposite or in alignment with the day of the week located in the space, or opposite the space, or in alignment with the space in which the name of the month occurs, and since the names of the months are located in the spaces in alignment with the days of the week on which they begin, the numeral 1 will correctly designate the first day of that month, and consequently the other days of the month will be correctly designated. by the numerals on the cylinder 7.
The year for which the calendar is designed may also be printed on the cylinder 6 and a description of the manner in which the calendar is to be used may be printed on the cylinder 7.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
In a pencil calendar a cylinder having a slottedv end for removably engaging with the end of the pencil, and having a pair of heads, a pair of cylinders rotatably support edon the first named cylinder and located between the beads, one of the second named cylinders having printed thereon the days of the week along the edge adjoining the other of the second named cylinders, and the months of the year and the number of days of the months printed opposite the days of the week on which the months begin, the said cylinder also having the year for which the calendar is to be used printed thereon, and the other cylinder having numerals corresponding to the days of the longer months divided into seven groups, the numerals in eachgroup extending along the cylinder and corresponding to the days of the month to designate the dates of the month occuring on the same day of consecutive weeks.
