Description
S. M. ELOWSKY. NURSING BLOUSE. APPLICATION HLED AUG-24, I918.
Patented Jan. 7, 1919.
INVENTOH SAMUEL M; ELOWSKYY A TTORA/EYS srarns mew orripn.
SAMUEL M. ELOWSKY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
nunsmernousn.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. ELowsKY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Nursing-Blouse, of which the following is a full clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to womens garment-s and its object is to provide a new and improved nursing-blouse which in its general appearance is like an ordinary blouse but can be readily opened by the. user for nursing purposes. Another object is to insure a desired privacy by covering the breast and the infants head during nursing.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the nursing blouse as applied;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view of the same on theline 4-4 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same on the I line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of a portion of one side of the blouse with the belt removed and part of the pocket at this side shown broken out.
The blouse'in its general construction is similar to an ordinary blouse and is adapted to be opened and closed along the front median line 10 and on opposite sides of the median front line are arranged vertically disposed pairs of folds 11 and 12, each forming between them a nursing opening 13 arranged over the corresponding breast of the wearer. Each nursing opening 18 is normally closed by a covering flap 14 attached at its upper end to the body of the blouse and having its sides extending under the folds 11 and 12 so that the latter overlie the sides of the covering flap 14. The lower end of each covering flap 14 extends into a pocket 20 arranged on the lower portion of the Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed August 24, 1918. Serial No. 251,333.
blouse, and the rear member 21 of this pocket 20 is providedwith a fastening member 22, uch as a button, adapted to be engaged by a fastening member 23, such as a buttonhole, formed in the lower end of the covering flap 14 to hold the latter normally in closing position over the opening 13. It will be noticed that by the arrangement described a free view of the pocket 20 is had without interference by the covering flap l4. WVhcn it is desired to uncover the nursing opening 13 for nursing purposes, the user unbuttons the lower end of the covering flap 14 from the pocket member 21 and swings the same upward, at the same time withdrawing the side edges from under the folds 11 and 12, thus permitting ready nursing. If desired, the covering flap 14 may be drawn over the childs head for protecting purposes and insuring privacy, or the lower end of the covering flap 14 may be attached to a button 25 arranged exteriorly on the blouse above the upper ends of the folds 11 and 12 and approximately midway between the same.
By reference to the drawings it will be noticed that the upper ends of the covering flaps 14 are attached to sidewise extending seams 26 which enhance the ornamental appearance of the blouse. It will also be noticed that by extending the lower end of the covering flap 14 into the pockets 20 and covering up the side edges of the covering flaps by the folds 11 and 12, each covering flap forms a panel and thus gives the blouse the general appearance of an ordinary blouse. It will further be noticed that by attaching the lower end of each covering flap to the back member 21 of the pocket such lower end is not visible and as it is attached to the back member 21 it cannot work accidentally out of the pocket. The nursing blouse illustrated in the drawings is preferably provided with a belt 40 adapted to be opened and closed at the front. The belt 40 when closed overlies the upper portions of the pockets 20, as plainly shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5, but the belt 40 is opened and preferably left open during nursing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A nursing blouse provided on opposite sides of the front median line with spaced approximately vertically disposed folds with a nursing opening between them and ar ranged over the breast of the wearer a pocket at the bottom of the said opening and a covering flap for the nursing opening attached to the blouse at the top of the nursing opening, the said covering flap extending with its sides under the said folds, and the lower end of the said covering flap extending into the said pocket.
2. A nursing blouse provided on opposite sides of the front median line with spaced approximately vertically disposed folds with a nursing opening between them and arranged over the breast of the wearer, a pocket at the bottom of the said opening and a covering flap for the nursing opening attached to the blouse at the top of the nursing opening, the said covering flap extending with its sides under the said folds and the lower end of the said covering flap extending into the said pocket, the lower end of the covering flap being provided With a fastening member, a fastening member inside of the said pocket and adapted to be engaged by the said fastening member of the covering flap, and a fastening member near the top of the said covering flap and adapted to be engaged by the fastening member on the lower end of the said covering flap.
