Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve output power in initial discharge by pouring an electrolyte into a power generating part, after dissolving a specific metal hydroxide at the time of activation of a battery. CONSTITUTION:The hydroxide powder 4 of an alkaline metal such as lithium is dissolved into an electrolyte fed in from an intake hole 1 at the time of activation, and this electrolyte is introduced into a power generating part 5 to activate a battery. These processes are preferably applied to a silver chloride-magnesium sea water battery, a lithium-water system battery in which lithium hydroxide is adjusted to a specified concentration to be used as an electrolyte by use of water or sea water taken from the outside. When an outer container 7 is immersed into sea water, an electrolyte is supplied with a circulating pump 3 through a water pipe 2 from the intake hole 1, dissolves lithium hydroxide in a reservoir 4 of lithium hydroxide powder, introduced into the power generating part 5, and circulates inside through a drain pipe 6. Powder of sodium and potassium hydroxides are also used. These processes eliminates the generation of heat and gas, and provide a good initial discharge performance.
