Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the chlorine gas produced from an anode chamber pollution-free by providing means of absorbing said gas into an aqueous chloride soln.
CONSTITUTION: The chlorine gas produced at the time of making fresh water from sea water or the like through electric dialysis is subjected to nonpolluting treatment. The chlorine gas produced from an anode chamber 5 where there is anode plate 1 of an electrode dialysis cell 3 is led into a chlorine gas absorber 15 through a line 16. On the other hand, sea water is supplied through a line 17 into the chlorine gas absorber 15, where it is allowed to contact with the chlorine gas to absorb the same. The sea water having absorbed the chlorine gas is transferred to outside the apparatus through a line 18. In general, the chlorine gas is hard to dissolve in an aqueous chloride soln. such as sea water, but if the amount of the aqueous chloride soln. is large, said gas dissolves sufficiently. If sodium hydroxide is added to the sea water supplied, the absorbing power of the chlorine gas increases.
