Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the strength of a bulb by employing a specific value for an average particle size of a phosphor material near the bulb side of a bent tube type fluorescent lamp having two phosphor material layers. CONSTITUTION:Two layers of phosphor material films are coated on the inner face of a bulb 1, and the first phosphor material layer 2 at the discharge passage side is made of the three-band narrow-band luminescent phosphor material with an average particle size of 4.5mu. On the other hand, the second phosphor material layer 3 at the bulb 1 side is made of, e.g., antimony-manganese - inactive halogenide - calcium phosphate phosphor material[3Ca3(PO4)2.CaFCl/ Sb.Mn]with the average particle size of 4mu. When the average particle size of the second phosphor material layer is made 5mu or less, the bulb strength is improved rapidly. This is caused by the fact that the phosphor material sinks into the bulb 1 when the bulb 1 is heated and bent, but this sinking phenomenon is reduced as the particle size of the phosphor material is decreased, as observed by a microscope.
