Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an ingot having no central segregation or the like by locating the final solidification position of the ingot at the height of a specific range with respect to the molten steel level in a mold.
CONSTITUTION: The final solidification position of an ingot under casting is located within the range of 2.0M downward from the position of 1.4M upper than the molten steel level in the mold. More specifically, the molten steel 6 supplied from a ladle 1 is teemed from a tundish 2 through an immersion nozzle 3 into a mole 4, where solidification is started, and a solidified shell 7 is formed. The shell 7 is drawn continuously, and in an ingot guide device 5 and a secondary cooling zone provided in succession to the mold 4, it is supported and grows while it contacts with the unsolidified molten steel under cooling, after which a crater end 14 is drawn so as to locate within the range of the assigned height with respect to the molten steel level in the mold.
