Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the quality and performance of weld zone by automatically controlling the movement of a welding torch and strap plates synchronously with welding speeds by detecting welding arc positions.
CONSTITUTION: When, on progression of welding, the molten metal level position rises until the arc begins to be generated outside the arc position detecting range, no more signals are emitted from welding arc position detectors 14a, 14b. Only the inverted signal from a weaving inverted signal generator 15 is inputted to position decision circuits 17a, 17b, and the signals indicating the operations are applied from the circuits 17a, 17b to a movement controller 18. Hence, the movement controller 18 emits a command to an electric motor 19 which in turn drives rollers 4, thereby moving a retaining and holding means 1 upward. Thereupon, when the arc position again enters the arc detecting range of the detectors 14a, 14b , the detected signals are emitted. The circuits 17a, 17b receive the signal from the weaving inverted signal generator 15 and the signals from the detectors 14a, 14b simultaneously and the electric motor 19 is stopped by the command of the controller 18. Hence, the torch 7, strap plates 3a, 3b and the members 2 to be welded are related in the proper position.
