Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high selectivity and yield, by dehydrogenating a dimer of cyclohexanone in the presence of a specifically prepared Pt catalyst supported on a porous alumina, thereby ensuring the long activity of the catalyst even when halogen remains in the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Chloroplatinic acid is adsorbed to a porous alumina or an alumina- rich silica-alumina having a specific surface area of 200W350m2/g and a specific volume of 0.60W0.95ml/g at a pt content of 0.1W3.0wt%, and then 1W10wt% of alkali is adsorbed to the carrier. The product is then dried, calcined and hydrogenated. A dimer of cyclohexane or o-cyclonhexylphenol is dehydrogenated in the presence of the catalyst prepared above to give the objective compound. If the adsorption of 0.1W2wt% of the chloroplatinic acid to the carrier is carried out simultaneously or after the treatment with alkali, the formation of side products, e.g. biphenyl, phenol, etc., can be efficiently inhibited without deteriorating the catalytic activity.
