Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate the sensing of the damaged part of the tool by a method wherein a boundary line between a flank and a rake face of the tool is sensed in reference to TV picture image, a section having appropriate width around the boundary line is taken to calculate an area of a part which is not related to the face or the rake face.
CONSTITUTION: A boundary line between a flank 2 and a rake face 3 of the cutting tool 1 is set to face against TV camera 10 and the shutters 13, 14 arranged at the lighting devices 12, 13 are alternatively operated. Image processing device 20 alternatively produces a rake face image taking signal and a flank image taking signal, adds them to the shutter driving devices 21, 22 to release alternatively the shutters 15, 14 by a specified time and at the same time adds these signals to the image taking device 19 as an image taking signal. Contuor of the images 2, 3 from the image data are taken out to detect the boundary line. Then, this is mask processed to calculate an area of the damaged part and they are judged in response to the value.
