Abstract
PURPOSE: To continuously separate an untreated liquid into a heavy liquid component and a light liquid component even when a feed rate of the untreated liquid is varied, by providing an upper rotary partition board being projected into a cylindrical heavy liquid column in opposition to a baffle board which is used in the conventional centrifugal separator.
CONSTITUTION: An untreated liquid fed from a feed inlet port 40 flows through an untreated liquid introducing cylinder 25 into an inner rotary cylinder 2 via an opening 27 provided in a wall thereof. The liquid entering the inner rotary cylinder 2 is separated into a heavy liquid layer d and a light liquid layer b in accordance with the difference between the levels of centrifugal forces applied to the different liquid components. The heavy liquid d is moved close to the outer circumferential surface of the inner rotary cylinder 2 to flow through a heavy liquid communication passage 11 and a lower annular port 4, the heavy liquid being then discharged from an excess heavy liquid discharge port 38. The light liquid b is moved upwardly in the vicinity of the central portion of the inner cylinder 2 to flow into an upper outer section via an upper annular port 3, the light liquid being the n discharged outside. An upper rotary partition board 12 projected into a cylindrical heavy liquid column a has an air passage hole 32 at the inner side thereof. Accordingly, an interface between the heavy and light liquids is moved inwardly and outwardly within a predetermined range of distance above the partition board even when a feed rate of the untreated liquid is varied. This allows the separation of an untreated liquid to be carried out continuously.
