Abstract

1,028,831. Centrifugal separators. HEIN, LEHMANN & CO. A.G. April 8,1964 [April 11, 1963], No. 14592/64. Heading B1D. A centrifugal separator drum 13 is surrounded by a pair of concentric annular chambers 14, 17 which receive respectively liquid passing through drum wall 12 and solids discharged over the upper edge of drum 13, the upper part of drum 13 being closed by an air-tight cover 5, 6, 10 except for an annular gap 9, in which gap an air current is created, by rotation of drum 13, against the flow of solids out of the drum, to prevent 'liquid mist' leaving with the solids and reaching chamber 17. As shown, feed mixture is delivered by a nozzle 4, and washing liquids from annular or semi-annular pipes 15<SP>1</SP> a, 15<SP>1</SP>b to nozzles 11 at two different levels. Pipe 5 and disc 10 of the cover may be transparent. The disc 10 may be well down drum 13, leaving the upper quarter for drying the washed solid. In centrifuging sugar, the lower set for nozzles 11 may spray syrup, the upper set water.
