Abstract

PURPOSE: To supply air intake amount adapted for the operating state of an internal combustion engine by varying the air intake valve control cam of the engine according to the accelerator pedal stroke.
CONSTITUTION: The cam of a cam shaft 8 makes contact with a rocker arm 7 for opening or closing an air intake valve (not shown). This cam is composed of an opening timing cam 5 secured to the shaft 8 and a closing timing cam 6 moved perpendicularly with respect to the shaft 8. This shaft 8 is formed in hollow state and is arranged with a slide shaft 12 axially moving by the operation of an accelerator pedal 10 from the one end. A male spline 14 is formed on the shaft 12 to make engagement with female spline 15 formed on the bottom of the cam 6 for rotating the cam 6 at predetermined angle. When this cam 6 is rotated, it delays the closing timing of the intake valve in the lower opening zone of the accelerator pedal 10.
