Description
(1)反射用CFと透過用CFの間に色特性を合わせたCFを用いる、
(2)透過用CFを用い、反射部に色補正手段を設ける、
などの構成が提案されている。
以下、本発明の原理について、図2〜4を参照しながら説明する。ただし図中、先に説明した部分に対応する部分には同一の参照符号を付し、説明を省略する。
[第1実施例]
図5は、本発明の第1実施例による半透過型液晶表示装置40の断面構成を、特定の色(R,G,B)に対応したひとつの画素領域について示す。
[第2実施例]
図12は、本発明の第2実施例による半透過型液晶表示装置60の構成を示す。ただし図12中、先に説明した部分に対応する部分には同一の参照符号を付し、説明を省略する。

Claims (5)
- 第1の基板と、前記第1の基板の背後に配設された第2の基板と、前記第1および第2の基板の間に封入された液晶層とよりなり、赤、緑、青色のカラーフィルタを有する赤、緑、青色の画素領域が形成された液晶パネルと、
前記液晶パネルの背後に配設されたバックライト光源と、
前記バックライト光源のさらに背後に配設された反射部材と、
前記液晶パネルと前記反射部材との間に配設され、直線偏光板とλ/4位相差板とよりなる円偏光板と、を含み、前記直線偏光板と前記λ/4位相差板とは複屈折の波長依存性を示し、
前記複数の画素領域の各々には、反射領域と透過領域とが設けられた、視感度が最大となる550nm近傍の光を最もよく反射または透過するように設計された半透過型液晶表示装置において、
前記各々の画素領域において、前記カラーフィルタには、前記反射領域に対応して開口部が設けられ、
前記開口部は、前記緑色カラーフィルタで最大面積を有し、
前記反射領域に対する前記開口部の面積比が、前記緑色カラーフィルタで50%以上100%以下に設定され、
前記反射領域からの反射強度が、前記透過領域からの反射強度よりも小さいことを特徴とする半透過型液晶表示装置。 - 前記反射領域の面積が、前記透過領域の面積より小さいことを特徴とする請求項1記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記反射領域と前記反射部材からの反射光で規定される白色度が、D65光源下において(x,y)=(0.32±0.02,0.36±0.02)の範囲にあることを特徴とする請求項1または2記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記半透過型液晶表示装置は、垂直配向型液晶表示装置であることを特徴とする請求項1〜3のうち、いずれか一項記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の基板には、前記反射表示領域において液晶分子の配向方向を規定する構造物が形成されており、前記構造物は、前記開口部の略中央部に対応して形成されることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のうち、いずれか一項記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
