Abstract
927,172. Continuous casting-machines. K. H. STEIGERWALD. Nov. 25, 1959 [Dec. 18, 1958], No. 39961/59. Class 83 (1). A method of continuous casting comprises feeding molten metal upwardly into at least one central portion in such a manner that an axially-extending part of the periphery of said central portion is prevented from solidifying and casting the upwardly-flowing molten metal constituting this unsolidified portion around the periphery of a previously cast and previously upwardly-displaced central portion by continuously supplying molten metal from below to this axially-extending unsolidified part. The mould comprises two parts 11, 12, the part 11 having heat-resisting and poorly conductive inserts 14, 15 to prevent metal freezing in the gate 8. Plugs 9 and 10 are provided for discontinuing the molten metal supply.
