Abstract
883,276. Explosive systems. CONSOLIDATION COAL CO. June 17, 1958 [June 21, 1957], No. 19317/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 9(2). An explosive system comprises a main explosive charge, a primer charge and a detonator, the main charge comprising ammonium nitrate homogeneously mixed with 4 to 8% of its weight of normally liquid hydrocarbons, the primer charge comprising ammonium nitrate homogeneously mixed with 0.5 to 3.5% of its weight of normally liquid hydrocarbons, the detonator being a blasting cap or detonating fuze and being in detonating relation only to the primer charge which is in its turn in detonating relationship to the main charge. Preferably the hydrocarbons have a flash point above 100‹F. The ammonium nitrate may be in the form of coated or uncoated prills, which may be milled if desired.
