An alloy steel for high temperature applications, particularly for compressor and turbine discs in gas turbine engines, has a composition in the following range in per cent by weight C 0.1 - 0.2 Si 0.1 - 0.8 Mn 0.5 - 1.0 Cr 9.0 - 11.0 Ni 1.5 - 3.5 Mo 1.5 - 3.0 V 0.2 - 0.5 Nb 0.1 - 0.4 Co 2.0 - 3.5 Cu 0.1 - 2.0 B 0.005 - 0.02 N 0.01 to less than 0.05 Fe and impurities the balance.
