Abstract

763,837. Charging and preheating granular &c. materials. SMIDTH & CO. AKTIESELSKAB, F. L. Feb. 19, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953], No. 4992/54. Class 51 (2). Powdered or granular material, e.g. cement raw material, lime or ore, is fed from a hopper 91 by a pipe 92 and a screw 93 into the upper end of a kiln 68 provided with a dam 70 and lifters 71 which shower the material into the hot waste gases drawn off by a fan 87. The lighter materials are carried off by the hot gases which traverse in turn a duct 72, a cyclone separator 73, a duct 84, and a dust collector 85 before reaching the fan. Material collecting in the cyclone 73 is discharged by a counterweighted valve 77 into a pipe 80 and that in the collector 85 is discharged by a screw 89 into a pipe 90. Pipes 80 and 90 discharge preheated material into an annular chamber 81 surrounding the kiln wall, and scoops 83, Fig. 2, feed it into the kiln. Air inlets 72a and 84a admit cooling air if necessary to protect parts of the apparatus. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the pipes 80, 90 and 92 all feed into the bottom of the duct 72 from which the screw 93 feeds the material into the kiln.
