Abstract

1,100,530. Charging and preheating granular etc. materials. F. L. SMIDTH & CO. A/S. 26 Sept., 1966, No. 42901/66. Heading F4B. In a plant for feeding powdered or granular material to a rotary kiln and having a preheater comprising several separators for solids from gases means is provided inside the kiln for hindering the flow of material through the kiln and for lifting it into the gases leaving the kiln. The lifting means takes the form of two annular walls 22, 23 spanned by lifters 24 to form compartments the material being carried to the top of the kiln 13 as the kiln rotates. In one form the material is fed in at 1 where it passes to a duct 4 leading to a separator 5, the latter receiving hot gases from a first separator 11. A dust precipitator 7 precedes a fan 8 delivering to exhaust or to a chimney. Solids from each separator and the precipitator are fed back to a previous stage by pipes 9, 12 or 28. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) a further separator 29 is provided, the pipe 32 of this construction delivers solid material to a duct 10 adjacent its entry to the kiln.
