Abstract

737,167. Turbine blades. OESTRICH, H. June 19, 1951, No. 14531/51. Class 110 (3). A hollow aerofoil section blade particularly for a gas turbine has a blade working portion 2, the wall thickness of which decreases towards the blade tip, and a central recess 5 in the lower face of the blade root, a pair of cooling fluid inlet bores 3, 4 extending from the recess to the hollow space within the blade working portion. The bores 3, 4 are inclined to the axis of the blade so that cooling fluid such as air impinges on the parts of the hollow space within the blade corresponding to the leading and trailing edges of the blade, the bore directing air to the leading edge being larger than the other bore. A cooling fluid guide 7. is disposed within the hollow blade to cause the fluid to flow near the blade surface, the guide having a root portion 8 mounted in a slot 6 extending between the bores 3, 4 in the blade root. The slot 6 may taper towards the blade tip or may be parallel sided, the guide 7 being retained in the slot by wedges 9, 10. Specification 737,166 is referred to.
