Abstract
840,543. Turbine blades. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Dec. 28, 1956 [Jan. 16, 1956], No. 1434/56. Class 110 (3). A turbine blade is provided with one or more transverse fins which project from the surface of the blade in a plane or in different planes each lying substantially at rightangles to the longitudinal axis of the blade, the or each fin extending across both the concave and convex faces of the blade and projecting beyond the trailing edge thereof. The object of the invention is to minimize the formation of vortices in the working fluid flowing within the curved channel formed between adjacent blades. The blade shown in Fig. 1 has fins 4 adjacent the root and tip portions, the fins extending along the trailing portions of the concave and convex surfaces of the blade, and projecting rearwardly beyond the trailing edge of the blade. The fins may be formed integrally with the blade or they may be formed separately and secured to the blade by welding. The blades may be provided with tip shrouding as indicated at A-A.
