Abstract

624,543. Pulse modulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 11, 1947, No. 15375. Convention date, May 13, 1946. [Class 40 (v)] In an arrangement for producing pairs of timemodulated pulses a pulse generator 10, Fig. 3, feeds X pulses, Fig. 4, to a delay device 11 producing Y pulses, which are fed to a triangular pulse generator 13, a further delay device 12 producing Z pulses, and an amplitude modulator 14, which is also fed by a signal source 15, so as to produce Ym pulses. The Ym pulses are fed together with X pulses to a device 16 producing amplitude modulated rectangular waves, which are combined with the triangular waves in a device 17 to produce the output shown in Fig. 4G. On differentiating, rectifying and clipping the pulses, pairs of timemodulated pulses, Fig. 4H, are obtained. The device 16 comprises two diodes 19, 20, Ym pulses being supplied in a positive sense to the anode of diode 19, thus charging the condenser ,24, diode 20 being normally cut-off. The diode 20 is unblocked by the following X pulse so as to discharge the condenser 24, thus producing the amplitude modulated rectangular pulses, shown at Fig. 4F.
