Abstract
570,541. Textile drying machines. LISTER BROS., Ltd., and BROAD, L. F. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 16646. [CLass 34 (ii)] A drying machine for textiles has three sections, the first in the form of a chamber X which is provided with an endless adjustable conveyor 8, mounted on pulleys 6, 7 located respectively within and outside the chamber, and is divided by a partition 1 into two compartments 2, 3, in the one 2 of which the air is required to be relatively cool and humid and in the other 3 hot and dry, a tumbler section 12 for drying under conditions of high temperature and low humidity, and a shaker tumbler section 11 for partly or completely drying at low temperature and high humidity. Air is circulated through the machine by a fan 17 having an inlet duct 20, leading from a duct 19 in communication with the compartment 2, and an outlet duct 21 having two branches, one leading through a steam heater 24 to ducts 26, 27 communicating with the drying tumbler 12 and the compartment 3 respectively, and the other to a duct 30, including a heater heated by the condensate from the steam heater 24, communicating with the shaker tumbler 11. The compartments 2, 3 and the compartment 3 and tumbler 12 have connecting passages 5, 28 respectively, and the tumbler 11 an outlet to atmosphere, the arrangement being such that air will be continously circulated from the compartment 2 to the compartment 3 and tumbler 12 and back again through the passages 5, 28; at the same time air will be supplied to the tumbler 11, this air passing to the atmosphere and being compensated for by the entrance of atmospheric air through an aperture 16 in the compartment 2. Dampers are provided in the ducts 26, 30 for isolating the two tumblers during loading and unloading, also an adjustable damper 23 in the duct 21 for controlling the quantity of air leaving and entering the machine. The machine may include two or more drying and shaker tumblers, and, if desired, two fans may be employed, one for circulating heated air through the tumbler 12 and compartnent 3 and the second for exhausting air from the compartment 2 through the tumbler 11.
