[Class 23] The cover of an extractor or other centrifugal machine is locked, while the basket is rotating, by means of a bolt moved to the shot position by the engagement of a pendulous lever 7 with striking means 11 on the basket. The bolt is then held by a latch released by manually operated cams. The box 14, on the extension 48 of the cover 3, Fig. 1, houses a bolt 15, Fig. 10, with two depending tongues passing through gaps in the extension 48 and the casing 2. One of these tongues has a forwardly directed hook 22, and a pin 21 on the short arm of the lever 8 works in the gap between the two tongues. The hook 22 engages the casing and prevents the cover 3 from being raised when the bolt is in the locked position to which it is moved by the engagement of the lever 7 with the pads 11 on the rotating basket. A ratchet 36 engages teeth 35 in the top of the bolt to maintain it in its locked position. Cam slides 16, 17 are arranged at the side of the bolt and are operated by plungers 16<a>, 17<a>, against the action of springs, so that their surfaces 40, 43 engage a pin 39 to lift the ratchet 35 from engagement with the bolt. The pin 39 normally rests in a slot 44 in the slide 17, so that the slide 16 must be moved first to start the lifting motion and this is completed by movement of the slide 17. The slides also have depending hooks which engage the casing 2. When the basket has stopped and the lever 7 rests against it, as shown in Fig. 1, the hook 22 is in position to pass through the slot in the casing. The operator grasps the handle 47 and presses the plungers 16<a>, 17<a>, in order, with his thumbs. The movements of the cam slides lift the ratchet 35 to release the bolt 15 and shift their depending hooks so that they are in a position to pass through the slot in the casing.
