Abstract

435,296. Machinery guards. NIGHTINGALE, T., 94, Claremont Road, Pendleton, Salford, Lancashire. Oct. 17, 1934, No. 29650. [Class 80 (iv)] A guard gate A is mounted on a shaft B to. which is secured a safety finger D adapted to move with the guard and coact with a cam plate E carried by a control rod C adapted to actuate a belt fork c or a clutch. A latch F may be provided to engage, by its shoulder f, the lever D so as to prevent the guard from being raised whilst the machine is running. If the latch be not provided, raising the guard rotates lever D which, in turn, presses against cam plate E to move rod C and stop the machine. The latch, pivoted to a bracket G, rests on a pin e<1> projecting from the cam plate. Movement of rod C to the right to shift a belt from a fast pulley K, to a loose pulley K<1>, raises the latch F and permits the guard to be raised. A second latch H is provided having a shoulder h to engage the pin e<1> and prevent movement of the rod C to start the machine until the lever D is vertical and therefore the guard in the horizontal or operative position. The guard, which may have a balance weight W, may be additionally held in the operative position by latches engaging projections at the free end of the guard, Fig. 1 (not shown).
