Abstract
409,712. Signs. BAILEY, W. G., 139, Windsor House, Victoria Street, London. Sept. 1, 1932, Nos. 24393/32 and 22185/33. [Class 3 (ii).] In edge-illuminated signs &c. the source of light e, Fig. 1, is disposed partly or wholly in a recess c formed in the outline b of the panel a. Some or all of the edge b, other than the parts comprising the recess c, may be silvered to reflect light about to pass out through the edge back into the panel. Alternatively mirrors f may be applied to the edge. Two or more panels having recesses may be juxtaposed to enclose a lamp. The lamp may be concealed from direct vision by an opaque casing provided with light-trapping ventilation holes, and forming a stand. Fig. 2 shows markings j, k, t set into or fixed upon the surface of the panel a, but etched or painted marks may be used. The edges of the panel may be rounded. The device may be applied to number-plates for vehicles, and may be adapted for illumination or form a lantern.
