Abstract
404,890. Electrically - controlled latches. WALKER, R. M., 2533, Chilton Way, Berkeley, California, U.S.A. Aug. 4, 1933, No. 21962. [Class 44.] A latch 6, particularly for a motor car, is operated from outside by a follower 17 through the medium of a sliding plate 11 which is prevented from full inward movement by a spring-pressed pivoted lever 23 which normally lies in its path but can be removed therefrom by a solenoid 27, the armature of which is pivoted to the lever 23 ; the solenoid is energized when a switch 33 is closed by a lug 31 on the plate 11, provided a second switch 38 has been previously closed. While the second switch 38 is open, the switch 33 is ineffective and the latch cannot be withdrawn. Separate springs 7 and 8 are provided for the latch 6 and the plate 11 respectively. The latch is withdrawn from inside by a rod 13 coupled to the plate 11 by a pin and slot connection and operated by a handle. Movement of the follower 17 is limited by a shoulder 19 abutting against the casing 5 at 20. In a motor car having a number of latches, all except one may be electrically controlled as above, and the one latch may be locked by key operated mechanical means which simultaneously opens the switch 38.
