Abstract

287,775. Brighouse, C. Aug. 18, 1927. Rackets.-In a tennis or like racket wherein the strings are arranged for individual tightening, the frame R, Fig. 2, is provided with countersunk holes for the retention of the strings, one end of each string being knotted and secured at one side of the frame as shown at A, and the other end being secured on the opposite side of the frame by means of a metal terminal M fastened on its outer extremity by a nut N, the whole of the terminal and nut being situated entirely within the substance of the frame. The bore of the terminal M is tapered and the end of the string is doubled over to wedge the string within the bore. The outer ends of the terminal and nut are slotted for engagement by screwdrivers when tightening the string. The stringing is arranged in three directions as shown in Fig. 1, the closest mesh being at the central portion. The centre part of the wedge W is unperforated by stringing holes, thus permitting two screw or bolts J, K to be inserted to strengthen the joint between the wedge and the frame.
