Abstract
A device for detecting the presence of a vehicle 5 in the blind spot of another vehicle 1. Consisting of sensors 6 mounted, either/both sides of a vehicle 1. Which detect the presence of another vehicle 5 in the blind spot and relays its presence to the occupant by a display (8, Fig 4) mounted in the vehicle 1. The display has an option (13, Fig 4) which when engaged alerts the occupant with audible sound when a vehicle present in the blind spot and the indicators are used.
Description
2350741 Blind Spot Buddy This invention relates to device for any vehicle,
mounted on the vehicle. To detect another vehicle positioned along its side and inform the vehicle's occupant.
Most road vehicles have an area along their side where the side mirrors cannot see this is commonly known as the blind spot. Blind spots make it difficult to be sure that it is safe to execute a manoeuvre e.g. pulling out to change lanes on a motorway.
This invention is to help detect the presence of vehicle's in blind spot of a vehicle and so help cut now cut down the risk of the vehicles coming into contact when manoeuvring.
This invention provides a display connected to sensors mounted along the side, roof and or side view mirror of a vehicle. The sensors register the presence of an object (e.g. another vehicle) positioned in the blind spot. The presence of the object is then shown on the display alerting the occupant that it may not be safe to manoeuvre the vehicle e.g. change lanes.
The Blind Spot Buddy will have the option of a display that also shows an indication of the position of the vehicle in the blind spot.
The Blind Spot Buddy will have the option of being linked to the indicators of the vehicle. Which when activated from the display unit will admit an audible sound when the vehicle indicates and there is something present in the blind spot of the direction indicated.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a vehicle in the blind spot of another vehicle.
FIGURE 2 shows how the detectors on the car scan the blind spot area.
FIGURE 3 shows a vehicle in the blind spot coming in contact with the bind spot detectors.
FIGURE 4 shows an example of a vehicle display to alert the occupant.
Shown in figure 1 is a vehicle 1 travelling in the inside lane on a dual carriageway 2 with another vehicle 5 travelling in the outside lane out of sight of the mirrors view 4 from the side mirror 3 on first vehicle 1.
Shown in figure 2 is a vehicle 1 travelling in the inside lane on a dual carriageway 2 with detectors 6 along the side of the vehicle 1 which scan 7 the outside lane where the view 4 from side mirror 3 cannot cover.
Shown in figure 3 is a vehicle 1 travelling in the inside lane on a dual carriageway 2 with another vehicle 5 travelling in the outside lane out of sight of the mirrors view 4 2 from the side mirror 3 on first vehicle 1. Being detected by scanning 7 of the outside lane in the blind spot from the detectors 6 on vehicle 1.
Shown in figure 4 is a front view of the in vehicle display 8. Containing a representation of the vehicle 9 with LED's 10 which mark the position of the area's scanned 7 by the detectors 6 which light up when triggered. It contains an ON button 11 and an OFF button 12 which turn the system on and off. Also an indicator alert button (I/A) 13 which when activated emits an audible sound from speaker 14 when there is a vehicle in the blind spot and the indicator is applied.
The Vehicle detector works by mounting three detectors/sensors along the side of a vehicle which scan the opposite lane for other vehicles in the blind spot these are then connected in the vehicle to a display unit position so it can easily be view by the vehicles driver. When another vehicle is present in the blind spot the LED/s on the display unit light up showing that the vehicle is in the blind spot and a rough guide to it's position. With the indictor alert feature activated the display emits a warning noise when there is a vehicle in the blind spot and the driver indicates to move into this area.
CLAWS 1 A blind spot buddy consisting of sensors located on a vehicle to detect the presence of another vehicle in the blind spot and relay its presence to the occupant.
2. A blind spot buddy as claimed in claim 1 where the sensors are located on either or both sides of the vehicle.
3. A blind spot buddy as claimed in claim 1 where the sensors are located on the side mirror as well or instead of sides of vehicle.
4. A blind spot buddy as claimed in any or all preceding claims with a display that visually alerts the occupant of a vehicle to the presence of a vehicle in the blind spot.
5. A blind spot buddy as claimed in any or all preceding claims with a display that visually alerts the occupant of a vehicle to the presence of a vehicle in the blind spot and gives an indication of the position.
6. A blind spot buddy as claimed in any or all preceding claims with a display that emits an audible sound to alert the occupant of a vehicle to the presence of a vehicle in the blind spot when the indicator for the corresponding side is used.
