Abstract

Cylinders, cooling. - The cylinder, cylinder cover, and piston each have a thin part of uniform thickness in contact with the hot gases and a heavier supporting pant; water flows between the parts in helical or spiral channels formed in the heavier part or in a part attached to it. Several forms of the invention are described. In Fig. 8 the thin liner 66 is supported by a helically grooved sleeve 70 which is separate from the cyl. inder body 68. Water passes from the grooves through holes in the flange of the liner to spiral passages 55 in the cover 51. The head plate 49 may be in one with the liner or separate from it as shown. The grooves 55 may also be formed in a separate plate.
