Abstract

1521800 Powder supply system COORS CONTAINER CO 23 Dec 1976 53816/76 Heading B2L A powder feeder pick-up tube, e.g. for feeding a spray gun, for use with a hopper of finely divided powder comprises (a) a powder delivery tube 11 carrying powder entrained in propellant gas from said hopper to a point of use and having an open (lower) end for. receiving the powder and propellant gas (b) a propellant delivery tube 12 concentric with tube 11 and forming therewith an annular space 17 having an orifice adjacent the opening of tube 11 for delivery of propellant gas (c) means 35 directing gas flow from the propellant delivery tube 12 through orifice 36 and into a converging conical jet of high velocity gas for deagglomerating powder from said hopper and entraining it in the gas and (d) means 15 supplying propellant gas to tube 12. The gas flow directing means 35 may be a curved lip as shown, producing a gas cone whose angle is between 30‹ below horizontal to 80‹ above it. The powder in the hopper may be fluidized by vibration and/or by air from the propellant supply; local fluidisation may be achieved by supplying air between the outside of tube 12 and a further tube concentric therewith, whose lower end may be cylindrical or belled outwards. The air supply may also create suction in tube 11 by being fed to an injector located at the spray gun.
